- This presentation provides EGNRET members with an update on APEC-CPI project development. Iain Sanders would like to express his apologies for not being able to attend this meeting due to other commitments. He extends his best wishes and sincerest thanks to all EGNRET members for their support in helping to get this project endorsed and funded by APEC.
- APEC-CPI or the APEC Collaborative Projects Integrator, represents an exchange for facilitating sustainable energy investment in APEC. Investing in renewable energy solutions is the primary force driving all other investment activities. This slide defines the scope of ‘sustainable energy’ within the context of APEC-CPI.
- Sustainable energy investment involves much more than stakeholders procuring technologies, products and services. Stakeholders are investing time, money, resources, personnel, expertise, knowledge etc. to facilitate sustainable energy: collaboration (e.g. partnerships & strategic alliances), business development (e.g. financing & marketing university technology ventures & spin-offs), and projects (e.g. wind farm development). Technology, product & service (TPS) investments may be applied to: TPS research and development (R&D), TPS utilisation (e.g. application of established products), and TPS support (e.g. legal contractual arrangements and education).
- Investment services include: facilitating different kinds of partnerships and strategic alliances, supporting each stage of business development, and managing project development & execution from start to finish.
- Investment services may be applied to Technology, Product and Service (TPS) research & development (R&D), TPS utilization and TPS support.
- There are at least 15 different stakeholder groups involved to a greater or lesser degree with sustainable energy investment. The main goal of APEC-CPI is to: accelerate, expand and multiply sustainable energy investment in the APEC region through the 15 stakeholder groups described.
- There are at least 12 key driving forces motivating stakeholder collaboration for sustainable energy investment. APEC-CPI will use these drivers to mobilize different stakeholder groups, by providing the tools and resources they need to facilitate sustainable energy investment.
- APEC-CPI will use different Electronic Commerce business models to guarantee the long-term facilitation of sustainable energy investment in the APEC region through the project in the future. 9 different business models are being investigated at present. Priority will be given to these and other models that mobilize & expand stakeholder participation in APEC-CPI.
- APEC-CPI will operate on 9 inter-connected levels. Level 1 – involves stakeholder sustainable energy investment initiation, through either the request for, or provision of: (1) a sustainable energy key service (see slide 4), (2) a sustainable energy key application (see slide 5), or (3) both (1) & (2). Level 2 – involves stakeholder collaboration. Level 3 – involves stakeholder business development. Level 4 – involves stakeholder project management. Level 5 – involves stakeholder buy-in to ensure that all the expertise and resources relevant or necessary to the success of stakeholder collaboration, business development and project management is available and fully utilized, including: (e.g.) funding, evaluation tools, resource consents, government subsidies or tax incentives etc. Level 6 – involves organizing the different stakeholder groups and their resources involved in a particular stakeholder investment process, (conducted through Levels 1 to 5) to manage the expertise & resources necessary to complete and satisfy the goals and objectives of the sustainable energy investment process initiated. Level 7 – involves organizing and mobilizing stakeholder networks associated with Levels 1 to 6, using the drivers identified in slide 7. The purpose of this level is to promote APEC-CPI, increase system functionality, and increase the number of stakeholders actively using the system. Level 8 – involves setting up separate APEC-CPI TPS centers for handling increasing volumes of business in particular technology, product and service (TPS) sectors, as stakeholder interest and participation expands. Level 9 – involves setting up separate AAPEC-CPI Economy centers for handling country-specific requirements, such as: local laws and customs, and language differences.
- The 9 inter-connected levels of APEC-CPI (slide 9) will operate effectively if EGNRET and APEC-CPI work together with the right public and private partners. Therefore, APEC-CPI will operate like a multi national ‘corporate portal’. The APEC-CPI multi national ‘corporate portal’ will utilize internal (within the 9 inter-connected levels shown in slide 9) and external (providing access to affiliated businesses and government departments) information resources provided by various stakeholders responsible for delivering the sustainable energy investment services & applications mentioned.
- In order to deliver the sustainable energy investment services & applications mentioned, APEC-CPI is seeking information from relevant stakeholder groups in each participating APEC economy. This information will be used to: Identify potential partners for helping to deliver APEC-CPI sustainable energy investment services & applications; and, Identify potential customers that can use and help improve and customize the various services and applications that will be provided.
