Today, the world around us is rapidly changing, faster than at any other point in history, largely driven by the rise of Big Data & IoT, and a new era of artificial intelligence capabilities. This is a similar paradigm shift for technical communication that we have seen in decades past. While this next paradigm shift builds on the past but provides a new level of complexity - intelligence or AI experience that fundamentally augments human ability that fits human behaviors. We'll discuss in detail the shift in term of technical information, interaction, and experience for technical communicators in the era of artificial intelligence, which is best encapsulated in the Microsoft mission “Empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more”.

Office 365 and SharePoint are evolving fast. A few years ago many of us may have begun modernizing our SharePoint environments - planning an upgrade or a migration to SharePoint 2013 or even SharePoint Online. Since that time many things have changed in both SharePoint Server and Office 365, not to mention within our organizations. New services have been added, and many of those services are improving with each passing month. What approaches, strategies and rollout models are other organizations using? What can we learn from their successes?
Join us for this facilitated and interactive discussion where instead of just looking forward based on the industries most recent announcements, we look back into key changes that we all need to understand better. This discussion will be facilitated by Richard Harbridge, a Microsoft MVP, and internationally recognized expert on Office 365 and SharePoint. Together we will discuss what has changed in the past few years for developers, IT professionals, and SharePoint leads while exploring how organizations are leveraging these services in different ways today.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Editor's Notes
The Society for Technical Communication defines technical communicators as those who “research and create information about technical processes or products directed to a targeted audience through various forms of media.”
Thanks to the exponential proliferation of small, inexpensive chips and processors, computers are as ubiquitous as the people who use them – from traditional computers, tablets and phones to sensors and wearables.
Machines are everywhere, constantly creating, collecting and making sense of the data. With the magic of machine learning and the limitless computing power of the cloud, this data is giving rise to intelligence that is augmenting human capabilities in exciting new ways.
Actionable Insights - surfacing predictive insights to the user through a natural user interface via NUI, leveraging predictive insights as triggers to surface relevant actions to the user.
Custom Apps - extracting relevant information for the user from website knowledge graphs via NUI, facilitating dialogs, finding answers, prompting actions, based on user intent.
Automated Systems – completing routine tasks based on user preferences or specific predefined rules that executes right now, one time, or every time certain conditions are met.
The world and technology are once again transforming” – Satya Nadella, CEO Microsoft
The desktop PC in the 80’s, as in “"a computer on every desk and in every home” – Bill Gates
Which gave birth to the web and new internet services and search
Leading to smartphones and the age of mobile apps “create a family of devices and services that empower people around the globe at home, at work and on the go” – Steve Ballmer
Today, the world around us is rapidly changing, faster than at any other point in history, largely driven by the rise of Big Data & IoT, the growth of the cloud, and a new era of intelligence capabilities.
This is a similar platform shift that we have seen in decades past. But they’ve also added a layer of complexity. This next platform shift builds on the past but provides a new level of intelligent or AI experiences that fundamentally augments human ability that fits human behaviors. As encapsulated in “Empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more” – Satya Nadella
We call this Conversations as a Platform
It is where Natural Language becomes the user interface
Where Bots and agents are the new apps

check-in to her hotel and get a digital room key
Dictate a response to an important email related to her trip
It also analyzes her response to the email, identifies that she made a commitment to review a proposal the following morning, and offered to add a reminder to Ayla’s calendar.
What underlying tech enables this scene?
Information organized into contextual hubs (e.g. Travel Hub – contains everything to do related to Ayla’s trip)
Depth-sensing (bi-directional, sensor-in-pixel) display
Speech-to-text translation
Semantic entity extraction (task capture) and automatic scheduling
Gestural input
Why do we feel this is important?
Customers tell us they are overwhelmed by the amount of information/communication they have to wade through.
We believe that technology can play an important role in helping us prioritize the information we need to pay attention to based on where we are, and what we are trying to do (i.e. context.)
What are Microsoft’s current investments in this space?
Windows Phone, Surface V2 (sensor-in-pixel), Speech Recognition, Bing (Entity Extraction), Kinect
What’s happening in this scene?
When Ayla checks-in to the hotel from the shuttle, the bellhop (porter) is automatically notified of her arrival time, trip details, and travel preferences so he can provide her with the best possible customer service.
Note that Ayla explicitly opted-in to share this information with the hotel when she checked-in.
What underlying tech enables this scene?
Cloud computing
Seamless integration with LOB apps
Online travel profile/preferences
Inexpensive credit-card sized devices with touch displays
Task- and role-based UI
Why do we feel this is important?
Empowering task workers to provide the best possible customer service is important to remain competitive, especially in a world where social networks quickly amplify positive – and negative - customer experiences.
What are Microsoft’s current investments in this space?
Office 365, CRM online, Win8 SOC (system-on-a-chip)
What’s happening in this scene?
Ayla uses voice and touch to interact with and edit her presentation on the hotel reader device.
Content analytics tell her how well customers have responded to existing information in the presentation.
New content is automatically formatted and laid out in the style of her presentation.
She leaves a voice comment for one of her co-workers on one of the slides, and it shows up in his communication feed (next scene.)
What underlying tech enables this scene?
Automatic formatting/layout/styling of presentation content
Content usage analytics (meta data)
In-context communication
Speech recognition
Why do we feel this is important?
Customers want to be able to interact naturally with, and create/edit beautiful documents on slate-form-factor devices.
What are Microsoft’s current investments in this space?
Windows 8, Office15
What’s happening in this scene?
Jeff and Qin are meeting to review the results of Qin’s research. Qin flicks a graph with his data to Jeff’s screen, and the data merges with Jeff’s model. Qin then takes control of Jeff’s display from his slate device to walk him through the results.
Jeff’s model recognizes that the addition of Qin’s data means the water pump used in the model is over-spec’ed, and suggests a lower-cost alternative.
What underlying tech enables this scene?
Auto-joining of data sets
Data Visualization
Trend and outlier identification
Model-based productivity assistants
Cloud-based services
Auto-stereoscopic 3D displays
Near-Field Communications
Why do we feel this is important?
The rapid decline in the cost of capturing and storing information is resulting in an explosion of data. Increasingly powerful and easy-to-use tools will enable anyone to combine, analyze, visualize, understand, and extract meaning from these large data sets.
Small “productivity assistants” following well defined business logic will help identify trends, outliers, and opportunities to make and save money.
What are Microsoft’s current investments in this space?
Cloud computing, SQL Server, Office 365, Surface V2, Dynamics
Intelligent content is content that’s is
Format-free, device-independent, and scalable content
Filterable content for different users’ environments
Responsive design for display on different devices
Transformable in an automated or dynamic fashion
“Structurally rich” comes first in the definition for a reason. All the other elements of the definition depend on rich structure: consistent, logical, useful organization. It’s structure that enables automation. And it’s strategic automation that makes content intelligent.
without structure “it’s almost impossible to automate content assembly and delivery processes. To make your content structurally rich, “you need to remove formatting (look and feel) from source files and add structure: predetermined organizational patterns supported by metadata tags.”
Adaptivity goes beyond responsive design – that is, it goes beyond changes in layout. Adaptive content enables dynamic, tailored delivery of the content itself.
When we talk about semantically categorized content, we’re talking about content that’s been identified as “meaning something” and is related to other, similar content. We do this by applying metadata to the content, or tagging the content. So you might tag your content as being related to something.
Using those metadata, you could later find the pieces of content you need to automatically build customized information sets for the industry, audience, and subject. Without metadata, it’s very difficult to automatically, let alone manually, find the content we need.
Reusing content can dramatically improve the way content is created in an organization. Improvements include reduced time and costs for development, review, and maintenance, reduced costs of translation, and increased consistency and quality.
Most organizations have a minimum of 25 percent reuse, but it could be as high as 80 percent, depending on how the content is reused. These numbers apply whether you translate content or not.
Development costs are reduced because the amount of content an author has to create is reduced. Authors don’t have to research and write it again; they simply reuse it.
In addition to taking less time to create the content, less time is required to review and maintain the content. When approved content is reused, it’s not necessary to review it again, reviewers need only ensure that the reused content fits or makes sense in the current context.
When there’s no reuse, the chances of inconsistencies in content increase, either because the content’s been rewritten by many people, or because it’s been copied and pasted and some of the occurrences of the content haven’t been updated properly. Often, when content is copied and pasted, the versions of the content begin to diverge over time.
Single-sourced content are stand-alone topics that could be published to Print, PDF, and HTML formats. As more companies are moving content from the Web to mobile.
Content is customized to meet the needs of the customer and built for customized output from the single source to meet specific audience needs or output requirements.
With dynamic content, information is assembled only when it is requested. It exists as a series of components that are assembled in response to user requests or requirements.
Adaptivity goes beyond responsive design – that is, it goes beyond changes in layout. Adaptive content enables dynamic, tailored delivery of the content itself.
Adaptive content goes beyond responsive design. That is, it goes beyond changes in layout. Adaptive content enables dynamic, tailored delivery of the content itself. The content itself changes according to a number of factors: the device, the context, the person.
Adaptive content automatically responds to the screen size and orientation of any device, but goes further by displaying relevant content that takes full advantage of the specific capabilities of the device being used.
Adaptive content doesn’t know if it’s in a responsive or nonresponsive website. It knows who it’s for and where/when it should be shown because it’s semantically/structurally rich and categorized (using metadata).

Key Message:
Cortana is a intelligent personal assistant tailored to an individual. She is easy to use, the best in productivity and available on all user’s devices.
Cortana does common tasks that otherwise slow you down or trip you up. Within a short time of starting to use Cortana, she has already demonstrated what she can do for you. And she does more for you over time as she gets to know you and earns your trust.
Cortana helps you be more productive, saving you time by completing essential, basic tasks on your behalf every day. You can tell Cortana to do things and she’ll do them for you when you want them done – right now, one time or every time certain conditions are met.
Cortana anticipates and does things for you based on the things she remembers for you. Cortana builds your trust and learns when you need help, so you don’t always have to ask. For example, when you set a reminder, Cortana will look at the action and offer to do it if she can. She’ll let you know once she has done the task and offer to do another.
If you ask Cortana for help, she should be able to help the majority of the time (and not say “I can’t do that” or “here’s a web search answer”).
Cortana will work with other apps and services to do things for you.
