2.0 Different Types of Intellectual Property Rights
Generally, intellectual property rights can help an organization to protect individual
innovation or intellectual asset. There are different types of intellectual property rights that can
be adopted and applied by the organizations in this present era1
. These are discussed below.
2.1 A Patent
Patent can be considered as an important form of property rights that are facilitated by the
government to a particular investor2
. According to this right, the owners have the fundamental
rights to exclude other parties from the making, selling, using, and offering to import and sell an
innovation for a limited time period3
. It is also important to mention that the innovation can be
exchanged through the communal revelation. It is also important to mention that the particular
innovation may be a solution to some serious technological problems. However, according to
this patent right, the innovations should be new, unique, and applicable.
2.2 A Copyright
Copyright also can be considered as an important and effective form of the intellectual
property right. However, this particular property right gives the developer of new, unique, and
original work special rights to the creation. Most importantly, this particular right can be used for

. Generally, this form of intellectual property right is being used to secure art,
innovation, and creative works.
2.3 An Industrial Design Right
An Industrial design right is also considered as an effective intellectual property right that
helps an organization to secure the rights of the objects or visual designs of the firm that are not
completely practical. An Industrial design right consists of several aspects, such as shape
designing, the configuration of color or pattern, and value of handicraft or industrial commodity5
.
2.4 The Trademarks
It also can be considered as an effective type of IRP. Trademarks are recognized
expressions, designs, or signs that help an organization to differentiate its products and services
from the goods and services of other organizations6
.
2.5 A Trade Dress
Trade dress also can be considered as a unique form of the intellectual property right that
can help an organization to secure the aesthetic and visual appearance of a product’s package or
design. It is a legal term that is used in the purchasing and consumption process.
2.6 A Trade Secret
Trade secret can be considered as important legal formulae that help an organization to
maintain the safety and security of designs, arts, creation, practice, and process of an

organization quite significantly and carefully7
. Different organizations consider this particular
approach to ensure competitive advantages within the industry.
3.0 Findings and Discussion
It is clear from the above review of literature that the organizations can adopt and implement
different types of intellectual property rights. There are some organizations, which used to
protect the copywriting of the brand image. On the other hand, there are some organizations that
want to secure the product manufacturing process or design. Different types of intellectual
property rights can be considered, such as trade dress, trade secret, patent, trademarks, industrial
design rights, and copyrights. All of these IPRs have different characteristics.
It can be discussed that organizations generally prefer the consideration of different types
of intellectual property rights in order to ensure effective and significant competitive edge.
Effective intellectual property right can help an organization in several ways. First of all, it will
help an organization to secure the rights of the products, services, designs, and processes. On the
other hand, it is also important for an organization to ensure business profitability. Effective
intellectual property right can help the organizations to mitigate the risks of copying of designs
and processes. Ultimately, it will play an important role in the business development process.
4.0 Conclusion and Recommendations
It is clear from above findings and discussion that different types of intellectual property
rights play important role in the intellectual property security aspect. Each and every individual

intend that his or her creation is not copied by other individuals. Intellectual property rights help
organizations to protect the creations from copying. Following recommendation plans will help
to overcome the associated challenges.
First of all, it is highly important for an organization to protect the intellectual properties
by considering different types of intellectual property rights. Secondly, it is also important for the
organizational leaders to follow the laws and regulations regarding the intellectual property
rights in order to avoid the legal challenges. Last but not the least; it is highly important for the
organizational leaders to focus on stakeholder engagement in the decision-making process to
protect the intellectual properties.
