Woodstock School Profile 2013
Founded in 1854, Woodstock is one of Asia’s oldest and most renowned international schools. Located in the forested
foothills of the Himalaya, the school is a non-profit, co-educational residential school for Grades K-12. Woodstock
combines the very best features of a rigorous academic programme with a formative approach to the personal
development of young people. Graduation requirements insist upon student engagement beyond academic excellence,
including outdoor education and community interaction. An established financial aid programme enables students to
join Woodstock from all corners of the globe and from all walks of life. Cross-cultural learning in this diverse setting is
strong and transcends the limitations of the traditional classroom. International-mindedness and global awareness rank
high amongst the qualities we wish to develop in our students. Our location provides an opportunity for social
responsibility which meaningfully addresses some of the most pressing issues of the 21st century: creed, culture,
poverty, inequality and access to the basic essentials of human life. The school graduates students who are excited by
the possibility of change, motivated to act through personal example and who have an understanding of themselves and
of their roles in a global society.

2. The Curriculum
Graduation Requirements & Grading
Student Achievement
Academic Programme
Students require 24 credits to graduate, with minimum requirements in the following subjects in addition to the
Enrichment and Residential Programmes:
SAT
Woodstock School offers a challenging, college-preparatory international high school curriculum which culminates in
Advanced Placement (AP) courses and a U.S. high school diploma. Woodstock fosters an interdisciplinary approach
that takes advantage of the Himalayan learning environment. Students develop critical thinking skills in small
discussion-based classes and labs, taught by 65% expat faculty. Additional qualifications that Woodstock offers include
Cambridge IGCSE and ABRSM music exams.
Enrichment Programme
Woodstock students enhance their personal and interpersonal development through an innovative enrichment
programme. Areas of enrichment focus include the arts, service, spirituality, adventure and athletics. Turner Organic
Garden provides hands-on opportunities for students to learn about the remarkable biodiversity of their mountain
environment. Hanifl Center for Outdoor Education designs treks and experiential learning activities, including the
annual Activity Week. Students participate in community service through the school’s CARE programme, in which
they interact with and provide service to people with disabilities and communities in need. Woodstock has a
particularly robust music programme. The school offers many student leadership opportunities, including the Student
Council, Dorm Council, and Model United Nations. Students may challenge themselves further as they work toward
distinguished recognition from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, the International Award for Young
People and the National Honor Society.
Residence Programme
The Woodstock Residence Programme involves 95% of Grade 9-12 students and embraces a holistic approach to
fostering independence through teaching research-based developmental assets. These assets include external and
internal qualities such as support, empowerment, and a strong commitment to learning. The residences offer multiple
activity programmes such as residential sports leagues and clubs, as well as providing opportunities for student
leadership and service.
