Department of Education prepares teachers across a wide variety of disciplines including PreK-4 Elementary

SPECIAL DEPARTMENTAL AREAS OF INTEREST
The Department of Education has a wide variety of special services, clubs and features. These areas include
several honorary groups in various fields of education including Kappa Delta Pi, international education honorary.
The Grove City chapter of Kappa Delta Pi has won numerous national awards for the vast service projects that
impact the local community and campus. Other groups include the Society for Secondary Education, Lambda
Epsilon Delta Elementary Education Honorary, Fellowship of Christian Educators and the Council for Exceptional
Children. Students enjoy the vibrant campus resource of a Curriculum Library, full of materials to enhance their
teaching ability including curricular guides, consumables and other teaching resources. The Curriculum Library is
designated especially for education majors and overseen by a certified teacher. Grove City College also operates a
full service preschool on campus, The Early Education Center offers students majoring in elementary and special
education practical experiences with over 70 students and families from the local community. Furthermore, the
department enjoys robust partnerships with area public and private schools to support the field based curriculum
in teacher preparation.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Grove City College students work collaboratively with department members on a wide variety of research and
service learning opportunities in our local community and beyond. There are many local, state, national and
international opportunities for our students and faculty to engage with teachers and learners.
PRACTICAL AND STUDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE
In addition to multiple field experiences and teaching opportunities in schools starting as early as the freshmen
year, Grove City College students are provided with a wide network of opportunities to serve in summer work
opportunities with organizations that have missions to serve school aged students. From academic programs for
students who struggle, to gifted and talented programs, to camps and outreach opportunities for children and
youth with special needs, GCC students enjoy a wealth of opportunities to continue to grow as educators during
their time between semesters.
CAREER AND GRADUATION OPPORTUNITIES
Grove City College’s many education majors follow the standards established by the state of Pennsylvania. As
such, Grove City College education graduates may be certified to teach in Pennsylvania and enjoy the mobility
of a Pennsylvania teaching certificate to carry throughout the United States. GCC graduates are employed
throughout the United States and the world in a wide variety of public and private schools and education related
organizations and industries. Graduates also enjoy the added benefit of a dedicated Certification Officer and
a specialized Office for Education Career Development to assist with college-to-career readiness. In fact, the
Education Career Development Office serves both active students and alumni of the Grove City College education
program.
