One of India's first smart cities is Agra
One of the earliest smart cities in India, Agra is a popular tourist destination.

infrastructure. The project focuses on important development areas to meet this

 Social Equity - Affordable housing must be made available, and public clinics

 Green Space Revitalization - This process involves creating parks, gardens,
& other green places to improve the aesthetic attractiveness of the city.
 Resilient Infrastructure - In order to increase the city's resilience to natural
disasters, resilient infrastructure includes maintaining appropriate water
supply, drainage, sewage, and rainwater collecting.
One of India's first smart cities is Varanasi.
One of India's earliest smart cities, Varanasi is renowned for its rich cultural and
spiritual history. The municipal corporation is in charge of master planning. To
make Varanasi a smart city, the municipal corporation and the Varanasi Smart City
Limited collaborate closely. The Divisional Commissioner of the Varanasi Division is
in charge of it.
 Creation of a centralized command & control system to oversee and control
municipal operations at the PAN level.
 Putting in place and maintaining a specialized city-wide video surveillance
system to help city administration.

Chennai - A Smart City Programme Participant
The goal of Chennai's smart city initiative is to build a city that is both

 Smart mobility - Smart mobility includes rebuilding key thoroughfares,

 Smart water - Smart water includes 24-hour water delivery and
augmentation, control of filling posts for water supply, smart water metres

Kannammapet Crematorium, the installation of solar panels on the roofs of
public buildings, the construction of a biogas plant using water hyacinth, and
more.
Pune
The Pune Smart City Project attempts to put a number of initiatives into place to
make the city a sustainable, habitable, and prosperous one. The following are a some
of the projects being carried out as part of the Pune Smart City Project:
 Upgrade the current hard infrastructure to make it future-proof and suitable
for a 4x increase in population. Electric buses, waste-water recycling,

Ahmedabad
With the help of its smart city initiatives, Ahmedabad, one of the first smart cities in
India, is becoming a better place to live. Area-Based Development, Pan City
Solutions, Smart Urban Mobility, Smart Energy Management, Smart Environment, &
Smart Economy are only a few of the project's different development areas.
 Modernizing the amenities and improving the aesthetic appeal in a few public
spaces to support garden development.
 Development of an intermodal hub.
 Improvement of Anganwadis
 Retrofitting is being used to modernize and upgrade the local utilities

Bhopal
The Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) is the official
organisation for the city of Bhopal to oversee different smart city programmes.
Planning, design, implementation, coordination, & monitoring is all part of these
projects. Some of the initiatives of Bhopal, one of India's first smart cities, include
 Heritage preservation and adaptive reuse at Sadar Manzil.
 The implementation of an intelligent transport management system and
smart roads in Bhopal.
 Installation of an automated fare collecting and monitoring system in a smart
parking system.
 Installation of a solar panel system with a biogas plant.
 Smart street lighting and the pole.
Indore
One of the earliest smart cities in India is in Indore. It was chosen for the Smart City
Mission, which included significant funding to build PAN-city and area-based
solutions for it. The main goal of Indore's Smart City Mission is to inspire its
residents to band together and work together to enhance the city's appeal.
 Improvements to intersections and road construction for safety
 Management of solid waste
 Infrastructure improvement and preservation of historical sites
Bhubaneswar
The Bhubaneswar Smart City Mission, among other things, comprises initiatives in
three important categories. These groups include:
 A 985-acre region of area-based development known as the Bhubaneswar
Town Centre District (BTCD).
 Creating the Intelligent City Operations & Management Centre (ICOMC) as a
technological intervention for the entire city.
 Projects promoting social justice and capacity building in the chosen BTCD
area.
Coimbatore
One of India's first smart cities offers its residents access to necessities including
water, power, public transportation, reasonably priced housing, & digital equality.
Additionally, it emphasizes good leadership, security, safety, health, cleanliness, and
education. The city's sustainability and basic facilities for all are the main goals of
the development plan, which places special attention on the city's eight lakes. the
construction of new low-income housing facilities.

Erode
Erode City Municipal Corporation was chosen through a competitive process for the
Smart City Mission programme of the Indian government. One of India's first smart
cities has started a number of programmes to develop the area. Area development,
intelligent solutions, sanitation, urban transportation, solid waste management, and
other initiatives are among them.
Ranchi
Ranchi was picked by the Indian government as a Smart City initiative. Area Based
Development (ABD) & Pan City Development Projects are the two key initiatives
that make up the state government's Smart Development of Ranchi City. The
following developments are planned for Ranchi, according to the state government:

 Traffic corridor management
 Management of public transport

Udaipur
Udaipur is one of the first smart cities in India, and it has served as a model for other
areas of the nation, both inside and outside the Smart City, to spur the development
of further Smart Cities. A few smart city initiatives include energy management,
urban mobility, trash management, e-commerce, and citizen services.
 Construction of an outdoor gym at Gulab Garden
 In the ABD (Walled city) region, government buildings have solar rooftop

Visakhapatnam
One of the first smart cities in India, Visakhapatnam, has been working on a number

 The development of a multi-level car parking (MLCP) near the Jagadamba

greenery.

Vellore
The Vellore Smart City Limited (VSCL) is in charge of directing the city's many smart
city projects as they are put into action. Bio mining, smart road rehabilitation, Ottari
lake development, commercial complex building, standardized road signage in Pan
City, new bus stop, and other projects are just a few of the initiatives.
Pimpri-Chinchwad
Through a partnership between Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Corporation Ltd. and
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), PCMC Smart Sarathi was
developed as a sustainable platform for citizen engagement. Every PCMC resident
benefits from the project by being connected to the company. They are developing
its amenities and infrastructure, including:
 Infrastructure for ICT
 Smart Water Management with Smart City Fibre Optics Networking
 Solid Waste Management Done Right
 Smart Environmental Management and Safe Township Management
 Programme for Citizen Engagement
 Smart Parking, Smart Mobility, and Smart Traffic Management
Madurai
The smart city mission to make Madurai into a city where citizens have a great
quality of life. It will offer a healthy, diverse atmosphere with clever solutions. In
Madurai, a number of projects have been planned and carried out as part of the
Smart Cities Mission. Following are a few of the finished and ongoing projects:
 Fruit Market Facilities & Basic Amenities
 Facilities for travellers and heritage development
 LED street lighting and multiple-level parking
 Reconstruction of Periyar Bus Station
 Development of the Vaigai River Front & Water Supply Distribution System
 Waste Management – Solid
Amaravati
The Amaravati Smart Cities Mission is eager to enhance Amaravati by integrating
their suggestions with the ongoing APCRDA projects. Modern, environmentally
sustainable, and well-developed infrastructure are goals for the city. Amaravati is
utilizing technology to improve the quality of life for its citizens, the efficiency of city
operations, and the city's ability to compete with other cities.
Tiruchirappalli
The institutional, physical, social, & economic infrastructure are the four pillars on
which the Tiruchirappalli smart city project is built. The use of technology to
enhance city services and operations is a crucial component of the Tiruchirappalli
Smart City initiative. Initiatives to foster business development and economic
expansion in Tiruchirappalli are also a part of the project.
Thanjavur
The Thanjavur Smart City project aims to upgrade the city's infrastructure, with a
focus on water supply, roads, and transportation. Additionally, it will improve
access to fundamental services like healthcare & education. This initiative's projects
include renovating Sivagangai Park and the Pond, moving the Thiruvaiyaru and Old
Bus Stands to a Temporary Bus Stand Site in Karanthai, and more. Additionally, they
are building smart roadways and a commercial complex at the Thiruvalluvar
Theatre.
Surat - A Smart Cities Project Participant
The Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL) was established by the
government to improve living conditions in Surat. The Special Purpose Vehicle
(SPV) known as SSCDL is in charge of carrying out smart city projects. Out of 76
projects totaling Rs. 2988 crores, they had finished 53 worth Rs. 1204 crores in just
two years. The Integrated Traffic & Mobility Administration Centre, Incubation
Centre, & SUMAN eye (CCTV Network) are a few of the projects they have finished.
