This document lists Indians who have been nominated for and won Academy Awards (Oscars) between 1958 and 2011. It notes that Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to win an Oscar in 1983 for Best Costume Design for Gandhi. Resul Pookutty and A.R. Rahman have also won Oscars - Resul Pookutty for Best Sound Mixing for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, and A.R. Rahman for two awards for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009 including Best Original Score. Many other Indians have been nominated but not won awards.
