Founded on principles of creativity and diversity, Independent Lake Camp in
Wayne County, Pennsylvania is a family owned and operated overnight camp
that uses adventure to encourage campers’ social growth.The founders of
Independent Lake Camp, Dan and Anne Gould, are the parents of 10 children.
Thus, they have had plenty of practice combining a little guidance and a lot of
imagination to create an unforgettable summer.

Dan Gould’s camp experience began as a child at his parents’ summer camps,
where he learned first-hand how to create the “immortal summer” for
children. With degrees in business administration and counseling psychology,
and 40 years of coaching experience, he is largely responsible for creating the
foundation and programs for Independent Lake Camp.The camp director‘s
greatest joy is seeing nervous first-time campers fall in love with the camp.

Anne Gould is the heart of the camp, and takes an avid interest in each
camper’s emotional and social well-being. She encourages campers to try new
activities and tucks the younger children in at night. Utilizing a background in
nursing and sociology, she also oversees the infirmary, manages personnel,
and communicates with parents.
