Students from a village school in Tamil Nadu attempted to build a solar cooker to cook rice and save energy based on instructions in a reference book. However, their first attempt failed because they did not properly follow the instructions. They realized they had made a mistake by using a black coated glass rather than a plain one. In their second attempt, they made adjustments like using a wooden block on the bottom rather than a black coated box and placing bricks on the glass to prevent air from escaping, and this time the solar cooker successfully cooked the rice in three hours.
