To me, diversity is or can be defined as the make up of the difference in the human population. Going further, diversity is what makes us unique in our own ways. We can be diverse in many different areas from the type of music we prefer to the religion we believe in. In my opinion, diversity makes the world interesting because no two people are exactly the same. As far as my interactions with children and adolescents, I understand that for some these years can be more difficult than for others, especially for those that may be considered "different" due to their diversity. I believe the best way to interact with children and adolescents is to make them feel as if they are just as important as any other child or adolescent. These days children and adolescents are resorting to suicide because they feel as if they are outcast. This can be due to their diversity. It is so important for them to know that even though they may be perceived different they can learn to use their diversity to their advantage.
Children and adolescents in today's society are faced with more challenging things then we were ever faced with at their age. I would like to gain from this course just a little insight on the thought process of children and adolescents in today's society, how they learn and view things differently from they way we do. Not only do I plan to learn from my instructor but also my classmates as well.

Diversity can be described in many different ways. My informal definition of diversity is the composition of different aspects, such as race, gender, age, and cultural backgrounds. Diversity is when something or someone has a mixture of different components. For example, in the workplace there are different races with different cultural backgrounds within one setting. Because of the differences between the employees, cultural diversity is created.
Diversity may affect my interactions with children and adolescents. This can occur by not fully understanding other languages that those children and adolescents may have, which can be very difficult and lead to miscommunication. Learning other languages besides English can be beneficial during a situation like that. It is also important to remember that children and adolescents should be treated with respect at all times. When children and adolescents of different cultural backgrounds are in a classroom setting, the teacher has to remember that the students have different individual characteristics. The teacher must create an environment in the classroom where all students feel welcomed and are each assessed with their needs and disabilities is applicable.
I expect to gain a lot of knowledge from this course. I want to explore the different outlooks on diversity, including the positive and negat ...

Nine Reasons Why A High School Abroad Program Is Worth Every Penny.pdfstudyabroadscholarships
The benefits of top high school abroad programs are numerous and far outweigh the cost. Additionally, to the obvious benefits of living in another country and experiencing another culture, these programs provide a unique educational experience.
1. The advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad
1346013 Heerim Suh
Today, compared to the past, it is common for people to go abroad to study what they
want. Although many people from young students to grown up adults fancy studying abroad,
there are not only advantages but also disadvantages of studying abroad. The advantages and
disadvantages of studying away from home country are closely related to educational and
emotional condition.
The advantages contribute to educational and interpersonal benefits. First, studying
abroad brings wider and deeper educational effects. People can study and experience other
culture which is different from that of their countries. Wider experience in different cultures
helps develop people’s general understanding and insight into the world. Furthermore, as with
the prevailing purpose for studying abroad, people can have a good chance to develop their
foreign language skill since they get to speak practical language with native speakers in a
suitable environment. Second, by contacting with a variety of people from other cultures,
people can teach themselves how to get along with different types of people. Exposure to the
bigger world will help people to manage challengeable situation well. For example, people
who have experienced various cultures and people are more likely to adapt to a new
environment easily.
However, there are also numerous disadvantages that keep people from focusing on
study in a foreign country. First, loneliness comes to reality when living and studying with
new people. It is obvious that people would feel lonely and strange when they face a new
situation away from the familiar. Even though the period of feeling loneliness varies case by
case, it is a serious emotional burden. Sometimes, loneliness distracts people from
concentrating on what they have to do such as studying and getting along with new friends
and neighbors. Second, studying abroad can bring about psychological confusion in people’s
own identity. Having an identity crisis has a serious impact especially on young children who
are in a critical stage of establishing their own identity. Identity crisis can occur when living
in an unfamiliar environment which includes speaking foreign language, eating foreign food,
and sharing thoughts with new foreign people and these activities are different from those of
their home country to which they used to belong. If this develops into a serious confusion, it
can be a big obstacle in studying for a desirable purpose.
The advantages of studying abroad provide people with wider and deeper insight,
experience and interpersonal relationship as well as language skill. On the other hand, the
disadvantages of emotional distractions such as loneliness and identity crisis can undermine
the advantages if one is not fully prepared to fit himself into the new environment.
