This document discusses a study that will examine the incidence of diabetes mellitus in patients with hepatitis B and C virus infections. The study will collect blood samples from 502 patients who test positive for HBV or HCV. PCR and HbA1c tests will be performed to confirm the viral infections and presence of diabetes. It is hypothesized that abnormal glucose tolerance should be seen in chronic liver disease, as the liver plays a role in glucose metabolism. The results of this study could help understand the relationship between hepatitis viruses and diabetes.
