ABOUT THIS CASE
This is an Ogden Police Department cold case homicide. If you have information regarding this case please contact
the Ogden Police Department, 801-629-8272. Case Synopsis: On February 9, 1980, at approximately 1:50 am,
Bryan Pickett was found lying on his back in the middle of the eastbound traffic lane in the 800 block of Monroe
Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Mr. Pickett’s jeep was stopped in the eastbound traffic lane 24 feet west of the stop sign at the
Monroe Blvd intersection. He was found a few feet of where his Jeep was stopped. Mr. Pickett had been shot in the
head and died shortly after being transported to a local hospital. His death was as a result of the gunshot wound to
his head. Mr. Pickett was a Weber County Sheriff’s Corrections Employee at the Weber County Jail. He had gotten
off work at midnight and stopped at a local bar where he met a fellow Correction’s Officer for a couple of drinks.
Between 1:30-1:45 am, Mr. Pickett left the bar and was reportedly on his way home when this incident occurred.
Information at the scene indicates the use of a handgun in the assault although several 12-gauge shotgun shells
were recovered in the same area of Mr. Pickett’s body. A substantial amount of currency was in Mr. Pickett’s wallet

Michael Wayne Osborne, 50, passed away on Friday,
December 23, 2006 from complications of a construction
accident. He was born September 20, 196 in Ogden, Utah, to
Ralph Arthur Osborne and Eloise Brostrom Osborne.

Mike grew up in Washington Terrace and graduated from
Bonneville High School in 1975. He married Lorrie Rice on
July 10, 1982; they were later sealed in the Las Vegas
Temple. He worked construction most of his life in the Ogden,
Huntington and the last 20 years in the Las Vegas area.

Dean Ray Bird, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 of a sudden heart attack.

He was born Aug. 30, 1957, in Ogden, a son of Glen and Viola Bott Bird. He married Kathy Fowers
Martensen on Feb. 8, 2002.

He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1975. He has been employed by Bill Payne Trucking,
Utility Trailer, Amcor Precast, and currently employed at Hill Air Force Base as a MIC Manager.

He enjoyed the family cabin, which the family built together; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four-
wheeling, horse riding and anything outdoors. He especially loved being with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of Hooper; children: Jennifer (Brent) Swanson, Bountiful; Josh Bird; Jessica Bird
both of West Haven; step-children: Brandon Martensen, Megan Martensen, Hooper; grandchildren,
Kira and Keegen and also one sister Beverly (Howard) Wiseman, Vernal; in-laws Preston and Erma
Fowers, Hooper; and numerous nieces and nephews; and also many friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Charles, Richard and Jerry.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Hooper 10th Ward Chapel, 5375
S. 5900 W., Hooper, with Bishop Kenneth Stauffer officiating.

Friends may call at the Larkin & Sons Mortuary, 496 24th St., Ogden, Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at
the ward Tuesday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Hooper City Cemetery.
