Although master data management (MDM) systems have been deployed in numerous industries and organizations, the vision of creating an overall “single source of truth” is beginning to yield to a more pragmatic perspective of providing visibility to shared information about uniquely-identifiable entities within the enterprise. This more mature approach sheds light on some of the potential gaps associated with the typical out-of-the-box data models for customer or product.
In this webinar, David Loshin addresses data modeling for MDM systems, and share insights about:
+ Some of the complexities emerging from reliance on canned master data models
+ Alternatives for revising how master data entities are viewed and consumed within the enterprise
+ How a consumption-oriented engagement process will help the master data modeler devise thoughtful conceptual and logical representations of shared master data
He also discusses how these different ways of looking at master data modeling will help reduce complexity for master data adoption, system interoperability, and legacy migration.

Using SQL profiles and SQL patches are mechanisms that can provide targeted relief to individual SQL statements that have plan regressions. However, Oracle provides SQL Plan Management features that are intended to prevent plan regressions from creating challenges in the first place.
In this webinar, attendees will learn:
- How SQL Plan Management (SPM) works
- How SQL Plan Baselines are created
- How SQL Plan Baselines are evolved/enabled for use
- Limitations of SPM

In today’s enterprise environments, data architects are required to incorporate and integrate data from a variety of sources, such as multiple relational and unstructured databases, public-use data, information managed in cloud/hosted SaaS systems, and data absorbed from a wide variety of “open” sources. Without a process for synthesizing the format, structure and semantics of the data sources and verifying conformance among them, you run the risk of blending data in an incompatible way leading to misunderstandings in the best case and poor business decisions in the worst case.
To help you address the blossoming challenges of working with different kinds of data, David Loshin will share his thoughts and experiences and discuss how business-process-oriented data and metadata modeling can help:
+ Establish control over the interpretation of multiple data sources
+ Harmonize information concepts
+ Facilitate semantic consistency and information conformance
See the companion webinar at: http://embt.co/1uHXmjv
The ever-growing interest in data accumulation from multiple sources and organizations for reporting and analysis exposes a dirty secret: those business terms that we all think we understand actually have a wide variety of definitions. Sometimes these variances are largely irrelevant, and do not significantly impact the ability to create a reasonable report. However, there are some instances in which even minor variations in structure, content, or semantics can have a significant impact in delivering trustworthy results.
This leads to the question: if we have two different structures or definitions for what appear to be two similar concepts, should we harmonize the definitions and structures into one? In some cases this will be a good idea, and it will lead to increased consistency, but this is only true as long as the two concepts really refer to the same real-world idea. In other cases, the same terms are used for two different ideas, necessitating a division into two or more qualified business terms and definitions.

According to a recent report from SINTEF, an independent research organization in Scandinavia, 90% of all the data in the world has been generated over the last two years. Where does it all go? And how do we make sense of it all? To get control of the data, you have to know more about that data and how it relates to other data. Data modeling provides the infrastructure needed to capture the right level of information about the data and its associated metadata.
In this webinar, Torquil Harkness will discuss five key considerations for effective data modeling, including:
+ Aspects of model design
+ Attributes such as naming standards
+ The importance of planning for future growth

With changes in software development methodologies, the role of the data modeler has changed significantly. In many organizations, data modelers now find themselves on the outside looking in, relegated to documentation "after the fact" rather than active participation where the true value is added. In order to participate fully, modelers must not only adapt to an Agile work style, but must also be able to communicate the business value of model-driven development.
This session is based on a real case study where data modeling was introduced part way through a significant software development project that was quickly losing momentum due to high defect levels. Ron Huizenga will show the contrast in metrics and cost when utilizing skilled data modelers versus a development-only approach, with topics including:
Modeler participation in multiple Agile teams
Defect categories and impact
Measurement and analysis techniques
Remediation strategy
Break-through quality improvements
This "must see" session is not only for data modelers and architects, but also the decision makers for these initiatives, with information that is vital to modelers, IT executives and business sponsors. So, bring your boss to the session!

So, bring your boss to the session!

http://forms.embarcadero.com/Dealing-with-New-Datatypes
Data modeling is going back to the future! No, it doesn’t include a hoverboard (yet), but it does include some new datatypes that capture temporal and spatial information. In the past, datatypes were used to classify various types of data, whether integers, characters, or alphanumeric strings. With the technologies introduced in recent years, these basic datatypes can’t address everything – data modelers now need more specialized datatypes for specific needs and new formats.
Multiple database platforms have introduced new datatypes that can make it easier to support more advanced data concepts in physical data models. If you do not know about what new things are happening in the physical data modeling world, or what to do with them, Karen Lopez will discuss using a variety of new datatypes including:
•Temporal, such as period, with keywords
•Spatial, including geospatial
•Others, incorporating JSON/BSON/UBJSON usage

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.
Listen to the keynote address and hear about the latest developments from Rachana Ananthakrishnan and Ian Foster who review the updates to the Globus Platform and Service, and the relevance of Globus to the scientific community as an automation platform to accelerate scientific discovery.

and terms (instead of all at once or one at a time) using
CSV modifications
