IMMUNITY

•
This can be inborn immunity or adopted
Immunity can be broadly divided into two types
1. Natural immunity.
2. Artificial immunity.
Then the two can be sub-divided into following:
active natural
passive natural
active artificial
passive artificial
as describe in the diagrams in next slides.
4. 4
1.Specific immunity: antibodies invade specific
organisms. e.g. BCG for T.B only
2.Non-specific immunity : antibodies attack any
kind of organism without discrimination.
This is done by phagocytosis
• Where the T-lymphocytes which develop in the
thymus gland attack microrganisms.
• B-lymphocytes which develop in the bone
marrow.
• Or Phagocytes which are microphages digest
invading organisms.
Immunity can also be described as;
5. B cell and T cell are specific for a particular
antigen.
Each is able to bind to a particular molecular
structure or receptor, i.e;
• The B cell receptor (BCR) and
• The T cell receptor (TCR) respectively.
T stands for thymus where the T lymphocytes
mature,
B stands for bone marrow where B lymphocytes
B-AND T-LYMPHOCYTES
mature. 45
