This chapter discusses the induced responses of innate immunity. Innate immunity provides immediate defenses against pathogens through physical, chemical, and cellular barriers. It can also induce inflammatory responses that help recruit other immune cells to sites of infection or damage. The induced responses of innate immunity are activated when pathogens breach physical barriers and engage pattern recognition receptors.
