Imaginary NumbersBy: Mr. Ghetto Fabulous… Aka Nick Fowler!!!!!
What is an Imaginary Number? An Imaginary Number is the square root of a negative REAL number! And no, just because you are studying Imaginary numbers in class that does not mean you get Imaginary Homework in class…. I’ve already tried that one. Now let’s continue.
What Imaginary Numbers look Imaginary Numbers- look a real number with an “i” behind it.EXAMPLES>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
How to get Imaginary Numbers on Your Calculator. You click the mode button on your calculator then go down to the real selection on your screen and make sure a+bi is highlighted. To get the “i” on your screen you push the 2nd button and then the “.” on your calculator.
A rule of imaginary numbers is that your answers can’t have anything over “i” in it.Rule of Imaginary Numbers!!!!!!! Check it 
Conjugate Pair Rule! The Rule of a Conjugate Pair is that when you multiply a conjugate pair, you get a real answerExampleeeeee!(4-5i)(4+5i)=41A conjugate pair is simply the same equation multiplied but with a change in the symbols. Such as addition is switched to subtraction and vise versa. ;)
The Division Rule of Imaginary Numbers!! Are you ready for this?(6+2i) 4 * 8i(6+2i) * (4+8i) =(4 – 8i) * (4+8i) =8+56i = 1+7i 80 = 10The one rule for dividing imaginary numbers is that you CANNOT! Have an imaginary number in the denominator.Okay so what you would do then is you would take the denominator of your division equation and put the denominator as a conjugate pair into multiplication problem where it is one over one times your other equation. This will give you an answer that should have a real number at the denominator and it may be possible to simplify.
