Landform-based Erosion Control for Stormwater ManagementOHM Advisors
The City of Ann Arbor and University of Michigan received an award for their stormwater enhancement project along Harvard Drain and in Nichols Arboretum. The project addressed high stormwater velocities causing erosion by replacing an undersized storm sewer pipe and constructing a new channel with step-pool structures and native plantings. Construction was completed on an aggressive schedule through the partnership of the two agencies and surrounding residents. The project met its goals of reducing velocities and erosion while creating an aesthetic landscaping feature.
The document summarizes the Imagine Cup, a global student technology competition focused on using technology to address real-world issues. Hadoop, Oracle and the big data revolution collaborate 2013Guy Harrison
This document discusses how Hadoop, open source software that allows distributed processing of large data sets across clusters of computers, is enabling an industrial revolution of data. It describes how the volume, velocity, and variety of data, known as the 3Vs, are driving the need for new technologies like Hadoop. The document also provides an overview of how Hadoop works and some common tools used with Hadoop like MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Pig and HBase.
The document provides tips for writing effective Google AdWords ads, including:
1. Ads should have three goals - generating clicks from potential customers, discouraging clicks from unlikely customers, and setting customer expectations for the landing page.
2. Each part of an ad (headline, description, call to action, URL) should have a separate goal like grabbing attention or telling customers what to do.
3. Headlines work best when they are comparative, divulge secret information, tell a story, give instructions, arouse curiosity with questions, or use capitalization.
4. Dynamic keyword insertion allows inserting keywords into ad text so customers see customized ads relevant to their search.
The Top 4 risks in P4P (Pay for Performance) 20120611PERFORMENSATION
Incorrect metrics, poorly set goals, and underwhelming communication are the top risks in pay for performance programs according to Dan Walter. Metrics must align shareholders, the company, and participants. Goals should set thresholds, modifiers, and accelerators to determine payout levels. Frequent and transparent communication is essential to engage participants and manage expectations regarding performance and payouts. The biggest risk of all is human nature, so programs require active management to prevent behaviors like coasting or bending rules to one's advantage.

Sustainable Suburbs: From Drivable Suburbanism to Walkable UrbanismOHM Advisors
The document discusses the history and trends of suburban development in the United States. It begins with how suburbs originated from concepts like the Garden City and Radiant City models in the early 1900s. After World War 2, the rise of automobiles and highways enabled large-scale suburbanization in a drivable, car-centric form. More recently, demographic and market trends show a shift away from drivable suburbanism toward more walkable, mixed-use communities. The document advocates for creating sustainable suburbs through redevelopment, mixed uses, connectivity, public spaces, and green initiatives.
The document discusses infinite spaces and includes an image of an actual Hubble picture. It explores the vastness of space and our small place within the universe through the lens of a Hubble photograph. In just a few sentences, the summary introduces the key topics and visual element contained in the original document.

Regulatory, Technical and Modeling Challenges to Developing a Frequency Based...OHM Advisors
Wayne County’s North Huron Valley / Rouge Valley (NHVRV) interceptor system collects
sewage from 15 communities located in Southeast Michigan and transports flows to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) for treatment and discharge. The County is evaluating a regional approach to controlling wet weather sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs). A new methodology called the i3D antecedent moisture (AM) model, was used to perform the hydrologic modeling. The i3D model is a continuous model that produces a good match to observed flow data over time. The accuracy of the model resulted in a high level of confidence in the frequency analysis for SSOs and will serve as the basis for recommending improvements to control wet weather SSOs. The use of the AM model combined with a frequency analysis for sizing improvements eliminated the need to select a design storm event based on “average” conditions. This reduced many of the conservatisms that are frequently included in event models such as the capture coefficient and seasonal effects. The use of spatially varied rainfall also improved the accuracy of the analysis over the use of a point rain gauge. This paper presents the modeling and analysis innovations used and the preliminary development of a regional project.
