Ivan Illich was born in 1926 in Vienna, Austria and lived there until 1941. He then moved to various countries including the United States where he worked as a priest from 1946 to 1956. Illich was a social critic who wrote about modern industrial society and topics such as education, medicine and transportation until his death in 2002.
