Combining Quantitative & Qualitative Data in a Single Large scale User Resear...UserZoom
This document summarizes a large-scale user research study conducted by Measuring Usability that compared the usability of several major airline websites. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected, including surveys of over 1,000 airline customers, task-based testing with 130 participants, and analysis of think-aloud transcripts. The results showed Southwest had the highest usability and satisfaction scores while United had the lowest. Issues with flight selection, calendar interfaces, and difficulty changing reservations were identified for United and American. The study provided insights into key drivers of the user experience for each airline website.
Amazon web services in the cloud computing landscapelodeblomme
The document discusses Amazon Web Services and its cloud computing landscape. It provides an overview of Amazon S3 for cloud file storage, EC2 for cloud servers, RDS for database services, ElastiCache for in-memory caching, EMR for processing vast amounts of data, SQS for message queuing, and SNS for notifications. It compares some of these services to alternative offerings and discusses considerations around vendor lock-in.
Social media data generates value when refined into useful insights. While large quantities of raw data can be collected, it requires processing through an analysis pipeline to extract meaningful insights. Not all valuable insights can be quantified, and ensuring the pipeline delivers business value determines whether analyzing social media data is worthwhile.

This document discusses technology innovation and improving products and processes. It identifies 39 generic engineering parameters that can be improved, such as weight, length, speed, and reliability. The parameters are grouped into common physical parameters, technique-independent negative parameters like waste and loss, and technique-independent positive parameters like stability and manufacturability. Specific examples of parameters are provided, like defining length as a linear measurement and defining reliability as a subsystem's ability to perform intended functions predictably. The document provides details on classifying and defining various engineering parameters that can be addressed to improve technology.

This document discusses how to build an offline web application for the iPhone using HTML5 and JavaScript. It covers optimizing the interface for the iPhone, using a client-side JavaScript database, and caching the application with a HTML5 manifest file to allow offline access. The document provides code examples and steps for each part of creating an offline webapp for iPhone.
The document outlines the steps to install Oracle 9i developer tools on Windows. Abstract
The city of Bologna (Italy) is known for the left wing political options of inhabitants and for the one of the lowest child birth rates in a Europe city. Those aspects, combined with the fact that the city has the largest university in Europe in terms of numbers of students, shapes the local youth culture in a particular way. The paper investigates the visual manner in which young inhabitants of Bologna express themselves in an attempt to identify the characteristics of their public voice. Using the methods of visual sociology, I analyze the graffiti in terms of locations and content trying to explain the process of socialization in a stable and prosperous society.
This document summarizes a research study that examined how English as a foreign language (EFL) learners performed on website analysis tasks. The study involved EFL students analyzing an education website based on open-ended questions. Their responses were graded by three coders using a criteria rubric. The findings showed moderate performance by students on the tasks. It was concluded that website analysis can help develop both language and cognitive skills for EFL learners.
Introducing spirituality in the workplace can help improve employee personality types and job performance. There are three main personality types - sattvik, rajasik, and tamasik - each with different characteristics that can influence work philosophy, intentions, attitudes, risk-taking, relationships, and outcomes. Cultivating noble intentions through spiritual values and detaching one's ego from accomplishments can help improve job performance and cultivate peace of mind. Leading with compassion by inspiring others through one's own example is key to effective leadership. Maintaining balance, managing worries and leisure time, and focusing on cultivating qualities like patience, knowledge, and character can help ensure one leads a purposeful and meaningful life.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
Seagate uses big data analytics to improve the quality and reliability of its hard disk drives. It collects data from every stage of the manufacturing process, involving thousands of variables for each drive. Analyzing this large data requires new tools beyond traditional analytics. Seagate builds infrastructure to store and access this manufacturing data, hires data scientists to apply machine learning techniques to understand complex relationships in the data. This approach has already led to dramatic quality improvements, ensuring data can be reliably stored and preserved for the future.
This document discusses 4 trends in youth subcultures observed in youth marketing in 2009. It analyzes conversations with distinct youth groups around their actions, interests, and behaviors. The 4 trends summarized are:
1) "The Weasel" - A risk-taking group interested in fast bikes and pushing boundaries.
2) "The Out of the Closet Indian" - A more open group comfortable discussing relationships and sexuality.
3) "Application 2.desi" - A group engaged with social media like Facebook interested in online fame.
4) "The Couch Tomato" - A group that spends time avoiding responsibility and being entertained by media and pop culture events.
The document describes an experiment that measured the temperature change of water in a calorimeter over 90 minutes when wrapped in towels containing different amounts of absorbed water. The experiment used calorimeters wrapped in towels soaked in 50ml, 100ml, 150ml and 200ml of water, with controls that were not wrapped. Graphs of the temperature change over time were produced for each condition and compared to analyze how the amount of absorbed water in the towel affected temperature change.
