Open data can be a growth factor. When data is open, anyone can freely access, use, modify, and share it for any purpose. Making more public and government data openly available can empower citizens and communities, reduce costs, and enable new economic opportunities. Open data allows many parties to contribute, collaborate and create new solutions together.
#HACK4DK "Open data – how to make it succeed, how to make it fail" by Carsten...MeaningMakingExperience
This document discusses the importance of providing a free license for open data to truly be considered open. For open data to succeed, it must allow for copying, redistribution, and commercial use without limitation. If a free license that permits these things is not provided, the data should not be called open data. The license also needs to be clear, permissive, and non-revokable to avoid potentially making the data fail as open.
#HACK4DK "Sharing and exchanging avant-garde art" byTheis Valloe MadsenMeaningMakingExperience
Part of Ignite session prior to #HACK4DK 2013
Sharing and exchange can be avant-garde art. Back in the 1960s a group of American artists build a network of open data. They exchanged and co-created artworks - postcards, pictures, small objects etc. - via the mail art network by sending and receiving it by mail. The idea was to create a network of ever-changing open-ended works of art long before the internet made it part of our everyday life.
