Kiwi and penguin habitats can be compared. While some penguin species and kiwis both live in New Zealand, kiwis live on land in dirt whereas penguins live on ice or sand. Their surroundings also differ as kiwis live in grasslands and bush while penguins need to be near water. Both birds rely on nearby food sources like worms for kiwis and seafood for penguins. Their predators also vary due to habitat differences with penguins facing sea predators and kiwis facing land predators. Human activity has negatively impacted both bird habitats in the past and future protection of these habitats is needed.
We tag monarch butterflies to track their migration patterns. We write down the tag number and attach a very light tag to the underside of the butterfly's wing. We can then release the butterfly and enter the tag information online. Finding and reporting tagged butterflies helps scientists understand monarch habitats and migration routes.
The document provides information about electives offered at Onehunga Primary School in the Cook Islands for 2012, including links to learn more about the culture, language, and traditional arts like dance and drumming of the Cook Islands.
1) Maungakiekie, also known as One Tree Hill, was an important pā (fortified village) for the Te Waiohua tribe and their chief, Kiwi Tamaki.
2) Kiwi Tamaki was a great warrior who led successful battles against surrounding tribes and established a strong fortress on Maungakiekie that withstood attacks for a decade.
3) However, Kiwi Tamaki was eventually lured out of his fortress and killed in battle, allowing Ngāti Whātua to take control of Maungakiekie.
Gardening is a rewarding hobby that provides fresh produce and beautiful flowers. With some planning and hard work, anyone can create a thriving garden that will yield vegetables, fruits, and flowers for many seasons to come. Proper soil preparation, choosing the right plants for your climate, regular watering and weeding, and protecting plants from pests will help your garden flourish.
World Environment Day was celebrated at Onehunga Primary School in 2013 with a massive mulching effort. Students and teachers worked together to spread mulch around the school grounds to help retain moisture in the soil and reduce weeds. This project for World Environment Day helped beautify the school while promoting sustainable gardening practices.
Rooms 9 and 10 at Onehunga Primary School started a vegetable and herb garden project after their previous attempt in tires was unsuccessful. The students designed the new garden and received help from volunteers to build it. They worked hard digging and planting with their parents. The students collect food scraps for worm bins to produce casts for the soil. They have harvested potatoes and made potato salad. A scarecrow was painted to keep birds away, and egg shells deter snails. The garden now grows a variety of vegetables and herbs and teaches students about sustainability.
