2. My Problem Statement
• Tom, an experienced, Talent Acquisition
specialist at an industry-leading and fast-
growing core (non-IT) technical organization in
India NEEDS A WAY TO ensure graduates start
contributing quicker BECAUSE his company
needs to grow quicker and faster
5. Idea Selection - Most Practical Idea
• Set-up technical lab in select colleges
– In order for graduates to come up to “delivery”
mode quicker, it is important that they have
hands-on awareness of the companies products
and processes
– By sponsoring a lab in select colleges, the
company can ensure this and source engineers
graduating out of these colleges.
6. Idea Selection - Disruptive Idea
• Look beyond academics e.g. hobbyists
– Why to be so bent that we need only graduates – a
non-graduate may have more passion and more
hands-on knowledge, so restricting the hiring to
“Degree / Diploma” holders makes no sense. In
today’s world, we need to look beyond.
– Remember the Wizard of Oz:
• Why, anybody can have a brain. That's a very mediocre
commodity. Every pusillanimous creature that crawls on
the earth, or slinks through slimy seas has a brain!
• Back where I come from we have universities - seats of
great learning - where men go to become great thinkers.
And when they come out, they think deep thoughts, and
with no more brains than you have. But - they have one
thing you haven't got - a diploma!
7. Idea Selection - Favourite Idea
• Provide "on-campus" type facilities for 1 year
– Most new hires struggles to move into the corporate
environment post college and if they need to move
towns – it adds up a lot of distractions that can impact
the quality of work.
– In order to ease this transition both financially and
psychologically, while at the same time, providing a
unique hiring proposition, providing “on-campus”
type facilities for the 1 year makes a lot of sense
– The traditional industries and big factories used to do
this and some of them still do this by establishing
their own “colonies” around the factory.
