Problem
• My interviewee needs a way for college to
become a place to connect him with his peers
better and to become a place where money is
less emphasized in order to feel more fulfilled
in life after college.
Student Solutions
• 1) Go out and meet people.
• 2) Take classes which emphasize non-business
• 3) Join Campus groups
• 4) Create an information packet with his ideas
• 5) Talk to Administrators
• 6) Talk to other students with similar interests
• 7) Talk to students with different interests
Student Solutions cont
• 8) Create his own college
• 9) Create his own class
• 10) Create a class with the help of professors
• 11) Attempt to spread his viewpoints
• 12) Drop out of school
• 13) Stage Protest
• 14) Learn to deal with everything
Student Solutions Cont
• 15) Go out on weekends to meet people
• 16) Join in more class discussions
• 17) Take classes with business basis
• 18) Start a conversation about the emphasis
on business
• 19) Stage a violent protest
• 20) Appeal to the government
• 21) Research the effects of pressure in schools
Student Solutions cont.
• 22) Present his research
• 23) Get teachers on his side
• 24) Try and convince students to walk out
• 25) Petition non-profits
• 26) Pay everyone so that business is less
valued
• 27) Beg people to change
• 28) Encourage schools to value the arts
Institutional Solutions
• 29) Colleges could disappear
• 30) Colleges could do nothing and hope he
gets over it
• 31) Colleges could make themselves less
money driven
• 32) Have more community events
• 33) Have more discussion classes
• 34) Have less grade competion
Institutional Solutions cont
• 35) Give more money to the arts in college
• 36) Give more scholarships for artists
• 37) Give more encouragement for arts in
lowers schools
• 38) Give more funding for the arts in lower
schools
• 39) Require people to find a true passion
• 40) Encourage imagination
Institutional Solutions cont
• 41) No grades
• 42) Emphasis more on learning
• 43) Require students to have conversations
with students similar to themselves
• 44) Require students to have conversations
with students different from themselves
• 45) Require students to find beauty in what
they do
Institutional Solutions cont
• 46) Create classes based off of getting to know
someone in your school
• 47) Have community building retreats
• 48) Schools should care less about endowments
and more about the happiness of there students
• 49) Make high paying jobs available for creative
people, not just business driven people
• 50) Don’t inspire competition between students
Most Practical
• It would be most practical for my interviewee
to find people with similar viewpoints to his
own as his college. In doing so he will build
valuable relationships with his peers. Through
these relationships, he and his friends can
figure out exactly what they think the problem
to be and take action by first contacting his
school with their ideas.
Most Disruptive
• Creating a new school would be the most
disruptive. This school could be based entirely
on community and collaboration. The idea
would be to create a fun learning environment
with no competition amongst its members.
This existence of such a school would heavily
effect other schools and draw many students
away from them. This would change the way
these schools thought about college.
My Favorite Idea
• My favorite idea is to increase funding in the arts in
lower schools. An emphasis on artistic values, as
opposed to business values, at a young age would
show children that business is valued no more than art,
or any other skill. This would hopefully create a
generation of children that are not programmed to
make money, but that are more capable of choosing
something they enjoy to do. This would create less of
a drive to get money in schools, and since the goal of
making money would be taken away, create less
competition in colleges. This idea would obviously not
help my interviewee, but is an interesting idea
nonetheless.
