Ida B. Wells was born into slavery in Holly Springs, Mississippi in 1862. After her friends were lynched by a white mob, she began investigating and writing about the injustice of lynching. She published pamphlets and books documenting her research on lynching. Wells also organized boycotts and worked as a journalist and newspaper editor, using her writing to advocate for racial justice and equality.
