Demonstra on, in the design of an architectural interior, abili es to
independently conduct design research; iden fy, analyze, and integrate
theore cal and prac cal knowledge; and reflect on the ethical issues
implicit in the project; The project is comprised of visual, oral, and wri en
components and is selected and developed by the student with consulta on
and approval of the course instructor.
At the end of the semsester, students will be able to do the following:
design an architectural interior that demonstrates coherency, fluency, originality, and
elabora on
design an architectural interior that is responsive to its par cular social, economic, cultural,
and/or environmental contexts
support design decision-making with human-centered research and evidence in the
development of an interior that would posi vely impact human experience, behavior, and
performance
apply regula ons, ra ngs, and guidelines associated with health, wellness, security,
accessibility, life safety (egress and compartmentaliza on ), and sustainability to an
architectural interior project
apply precedent analyses to inform design responses (e.g. typologies, spa al organiza on,
and/or historical references)
iden fy and define issues relevant to a design charge (i.e. explore and set parameters in
terms of framing issues that impact the design)
select and/or design interior building systems, components, and construc on materials
that support the par cular design criteria (associated with construc on, maintenance,
environment, acous cs and life cycle costs) and the design intent established for a project`
integrate systems, finishes, furnishings, and fixtures in the design of an architectural interior
in ways that sa sfy project criteria and the design intent
select and apply appropriate luminaires and light sources

There will be a single project over the course of this semester and it will
serve as your Capstone Project.
It will entail the synthesis of all of the knowledge and skills you have
acquired throughout your years in the Interior Design program. Specific
expecta ons for each phase have been included in the project descrip on
packet.
project submission
It is expected that you will complete all phases in a mely-manner and be
prepared to par cipate in class (zoom) and group discussions.
Late work will NOT be accepted. Please plan your schedules accordingly to
be adequately prepared for deadline/submission. You will not be permi ed
to proceed with the project un l all work is accounted for. However, you will
not receive credit for work that is submi ed a er the stated due date.
One of the requirements of professional prac ce is mee ng client deadlines.
Unless otherwise noted, ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE
ZOOM SESSION and you are expected to be ready to present at that me.
My primary way of communica ng with you outside of class will be through
your MIX e-mail account. It is required that you have a working account, and
that you either check it on a regular basis (daily) or have it forwarded to an
account that you do check regularly. Grades may ONLY be discussed during
office hours OR via the e-campus message system.
I will be available for consulta on during scheduled office hours or you can
set up a mee ng with me at another convenient me. You may e-mail me
at any me, but be aware that I may not receive the message immediately. I
will respond to e-mail as quickly as possible when I receive the message.

There is no way to guarantee that all material posted to E-campus will fully
prepare you to successfully complete the projects. Failure to a end class
could result in failure to understand the material and steps necessary to
complete the projects.
The Davis College recognizes two kinds of excused absences: (1) ins tu onal

officially represents the College; and (2) the unavoidable absence, resul ng
from illness, death in the family, or other causes clearly beyond the student’s

COVID-19
WVU is commi ed to maintaining a safe learning environment for all students,
faculty, and staff.
Should campus opera ons change because of health concerns related to the
COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible that this course will move to a fully online
delivery format. If that occurs, students will be advised of technical and/or
equipment requirements, including remote proctoring so ware.
In a face-to-face environment, our commitment to safety requires students, staff,
and instructors to observe the social distancing and personal protec ve equipment
(PPE) guidelines set by the University at all mes. While in class, students will sit in
assigned seats when applicable and wear the required PPE. Should a student forget
to bring required PPE, PPE will be available in the building for students to acquire.
Students who fail to comply will be dismissed from the classroom for the class
period and may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct for further sanc ons.
If a student becomes sick or is required to quaran ne during the semester, they
should no fy the instructor. The student should work with the instructor to develop
a plan to receive the necessary course content, ac vi es, and assessments to
complete the course learning outcomes.

Demonstra on, in the design of an architectural interior, abili es to independently conduct design research; iden fy, analyze, and integrate theore cal and prac cal knowledge; and reflect on the ethical issues implicit in the project; The project is comprised of visual, oral, and wri en components and is selected and developed by the student with consulta on and approval of the course instructor. At the end of the semsester, students will be able to do the following: design an architectural interior that demonstrates coherency, fluency, originality, and elabora on design an architectural interior that is responsive to its par cular social, economic, cultural, and/or environmental contexts support design decision-making with human-centered research and evidence in the development of an interior that would posi vely impact human experience, behavior, and performance apply regula ons, ra ngs, and guidelines associated with health, wellness, security, accessibility, life safety (egress and compartmentaliza on ), and sustainability to an architectural interior project apply precedent analyses to inform design responses (e.g. typologies, spa al organiza on, and/or historical references) iden fy and define issues relevant to a design charge (i.e. explore and set parameters in terms of framing issues that impact the design) select and/or design interior building systems, components, and construc on materials that support the par cular design criteria (associated with construc on, maintenance, environment, acous cs and life cycle costs) and the design intent established for a project` integrate systems, finishes, furnishings, and fixtures in the design of an architectural interior in ways that sa sfy project criteria and the design intent select and apply appropriate luminaires and light sources 1:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. (e) billy.plyler@mail.wvu.edu office hours: M 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Tr 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. or by appointment online office: 704n allen hall ZOOM (p) 304.293.3534

  • 3. -3- projects There will be a single project over the course of this semester and it will serve as your Capstone Project. It will entail the synthesis of all of the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout your years in the Interior Design program. Specific expecta ons for each phase have been included in the project descrip on packet. project submission It is expected that you will complete all phases in a mely-manner and be prepared to par cipate in class (zoom) and group discussions. Late work will NOT be accepted. Please plan your schedules accordingly to be adequately prepared for deadline/submission. You will not be permi ed to proceed with the project un l all work is accounted for. However, you will not receive credit for work that is submi ed a er the stated due date. One of the requirements of professional prac ce is mee ng client deadlines. Unless otherwise noted, ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ZOOM SESSION and you are expected to be ready to present at that me. My primary way of communica ng with you outside of class will be through your MIX e-mail account. It is required that you have a working account, and that you either check it on a regular basis (daily) or have it forwarded to an account that you do check regularly. Grades may ONLY be discussed during office hours OR via the e-campus message system. I will be available for consulta on during scheduled office hours or you can set up a mee ng with me at another convenient me. You may e-mail me at any me, but be aware that I may not receive the message immediately.
