ICT has changed lifestyles and work patterns globally since the 1980s introduction of personal computers. While manufacturing, secretarial, and clerical jobs decreased as PCs automated processes, new employment opportunities emerged for IT technicians, programmers, web designers, and help-desk staff. Prolonged computer use can negatively impact health by causing eye strain, back/neck pain, and repetitive strain injuries to wrists and hands if proper ergonomics are not followed.
