The Allocations Committee received a funding request from the International Coordinating Council to host their 2013 International Week from April 6-14th. The week-long event features a variety of cultural activities including a parade, fashion show, cultural exhibition, dance lessons and performances. The funds will cover equipment rental, space rental, and promotions for the event, which allows international students to showcase their cultures while promoting global discussions on campus. The Allocations Committee recommends fully funding the $2,394 request.

In a 2013 survey of 1,100 students across Asia and Middle East carried out by IDP Education, the UK was rated lowest in terms of perceived graduate employment opportunities amongst five main English-speaking destinations. The repercussion is that the UK is losing its competitive edge for new international students according to a recent British Council report. What can be done to reverse this trend? Several international students will need to take on a work placement as they aspire to secure work in a global economy. In order to achieve this effectively and sustainably, there is a need to explore the placement experience of international students in attempt to come up with a support framework. This is the rationale underpinning a case study which captured the views of forty-one respondents from twenty different national backgrounds.

WHEREAS, The Allocations Committee received and reviewed the allocation
request of the International Coordinating Council;
WHEREAS, The International Coordinating Council is hosting the 2013
International Week from April 6-14th;
WHEREAS, This International Week will consist of a variety of events,
including the International Parade and Game Day, the International Fashion Show,
a Culture Exhibition, Dance Lessons, Panel Discussion, International Dance Night,
and the International Talent Show; and
WHEREAS, The 2013 International Week allows for greater networking and
understanding of international students here at our university; and
WHEREAS, This event offers opportunities for international K-State students to
showcase and teach about their own cultures for the benefit of the student body,
thus providing means for global-minded discussions; and
WHEREAS, The funds requested by this group and the funding
recommendation made are as follows:

Coordinating Council.
