IAMAW LL 1502 Working Hard For Working People
Our Mission The Organizing Committee of Local lodge 1502 is committed to educating our members of the need and importance of organizing new members for the growth of our union. Our goal is to preserve and promote the quality of life we have achieved through our union.
PROBLEM There is no internal Organizing Committee in our local lodge. SOLUTION Establish an organizing committee.
Helping Factors The education that is available to us. Proactive Leadership District and International support. Local Lodge website. Community support V-Lodge
Actions to Utilize Supporting Factors Commit to send two people per year to the W3 Center. Have Organizing on the agenda of each LL meeting. Set up a meeting with Mike King and/or Dan Van De Kolk to define available resources. Continue to post updated information on the website. Participate in community events (ex. Float/Banner in parade. Habitat for Humanity. Toy/food drive) Get everyone who is eligible, V-lodge access.
Preventing Factors Lack of member involvement. Time constraints of the members that are involved. Same members on multiple committees. Lack of financial resources.
Actions to Overcome Preventing Factors Talk to every member individually to explain the importance of being involved. Get more members involved, to spread out the responsibilities. Find out how to obtain funds by meeting with territory reps (how can we establish a budget)
Specific Practical Factors To Action The LL E-Board will commit to send 2 people yearly to W3. (if funding is adequate) The LL President will call for an E-board meeting to discuss officer and committee members role at the next Local Lodge meeting. V Lodge access is now available to our members.
Specific Practical Factors To Action The shop stewards will be assigned the task of talking to each member in their shop to explain the importance of member involvement. The LL members will establish a committee at the July Local Lodge meeting. Once a committee is established the committee will meet with the District Organizer to discuss what International support is available.
Evaluation The E-Board will evaluate sending members to the W3 each time the W3 schedule comes out. Following the next Local Lodge meeting, the LL President will evaluate the “role” meeting by talking to each officer and committee person to make sure they understand their role. The Shop Stewards will be requested to report back to the E-Board at the July meeting (feedback received from the members). Member involvement will be assessed by the E-Board at the August LL Meeting. (Are more members volunteering? Are more members attending meetings?)
Timeline August/Sept Set up an IAM booth at Labor Day picnic October Research companies in the area to determine possible targets November Hand bill targets to try to generate leads Jan/Feb/Mar Organizing campaigns on leads generated. April Assess this strategic plan
