Several years ago, during my short time as a football coach, I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to legendary coach, Eddie Robinson. He spoke about the importance of a system. Coach Robinson relayed the experience of being thrust into the helm at Grambling. He had been informed of how simple minded his athletes would be and the difficulty of running plays and defensive schemes. Well, if you watched Grambling State during the Robinson era, you would see anything but a simple offensive scheme. Instead you would see multiple formations, motions, audibles, and an attack that could change and adapt midstream. It was his system that enabled the team to understand and execute his plan. In other words, it learned from its experiences.
A safety system must have the same characteristics. It has to be able to adapt procedures and policies at a pace which allows it to manage the outcomes that are associated with the tasks of the organization. In order to accomplish this it must:
1. Collect relevant statistics and information (facts)
2. Organize and analyze the data (investigate)
3. Implement countermeasures
4. Monitor changes, and
5. Communicate with all the components.
A safety management system must be comprehensive in order to allow the organization to learn from its experience. The goal of a management system is to implement a chosen strategy by allocating resources at critical tasks (Kausek, 2007). A system is defined as a set of interacting or interdependent entities, real or abstract, that form a whole. The whole is the operating process that governs the core activities mentioned above.
The structure of the system is defined from its processes. It is further described as “open” or “closed.” A closed system operates by itself without interaction from other entities or inputs. “Open” describes a system which interacts with entities in an environment. Safety is an “open” system. It has many customers that have input to it and then it produces an output or service to the customer.
We can further describe systems as high functioning or low functioning. This refers to the exchange of information between the inputs and the system. In other words safety is an “open” and “highly functional” system. Safety continually exchanges feedback to its inputs in order to maintain close alignment. So, it collects data, analyzes it, adapts to it, coordinates change, and then resets to do it again.
A simple schematic of this exchange could be drawn in this manner.
In this basic schematic you can see that safety has closely aligned inputs. This drawing can be made better. Missing is the names of the customers and the services or outputs that safety produces to each.
A systematic approach encompasses all levels of an organization. The functions can be spread among each level or among its inputs, if so structured. This helps in implementing the change and directing its continuation. But the bigges.

The difference between this study and previous research is the exclusion of information technology (IT) security professionals with Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certifications. In contrast, participants in previous research were IT professionals with CISSP certifications. The research question asked to what extent is there a statistically significant correlation between each of the four predictive constructs and security effectiveness. This study made the same correlational determination between the independent variables and the dependent variable construct using a study population of 155 Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) members. This study used structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques to analyze relationships. The same previously used instruments were reused to reassess these particular participants. The results of SEM revealed that there was a significant relationship between security culture and security effectiveness. Similarly, significant relationships were found between top management, awareness and training, security culture, and security effectiveness, which repeated similar findings from previous research. A post hoc test was conducted using path analysis to reaffirm the direct causal relationship between security culture and security effectiveness that was also previously researched with similar results. The results demonstrated that security culture is a significant influence regardless of the participants' perception of a security professional with or without CISSP certification. The implications of this can greatly affect reorganizational structure changes focused on developing security culture as an investment and a much-targeted construct focused on by future researchers. ABSTRACT
Users do often not behave securely when using information technol-
ogy. Many studies have tried to identify the factors of behavioural
theories which can increase secure behaviour. The goal of this work
is to identify which of the factors are reliably associated with secure
behaviour across multiple studies. Those factors are of interest to in-
formation security professionals since addressing them in security
awareness and education campaigns can help improving security
related processes of users. To attain our goal, we conducted a sys-
tematic literature review and assessed the reliability of the factors
based on the effect sizes reported in the literature. Our results indi-
cate that 11 out of the 14 factors from well established behavioural
theories can be associated with reliable effects in the information
security context. These factors cover very different aspects: influ-
ence of the users skills, whether the environment makes it possible
to exhibit secure behaviour, the influence of friends or co-workers,
and the perceived properties of the secure behaviour (e.g. response
cost). Also, we identify areas, where more studies are needed to
increase the confidence of the factors’ reliability assessment.

Several years ago, during my short time as a football coach, I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to legendary coach, Eddie Robinson. He spoke about the importance of a system. Coach Robinson relayed the experience of being thrust into the helm at Grambling. He had been informed of how simple minded his athletes would be and the difficulty of running plays and defensive schemes. Well, if you watched Grambling State during the Robinson era, you would see anything but a simple offensive scheme. Instead you would see multiple formations, motions, audibles, and an attack that could change and adapt midstream. It was his system that enabled the team to understand and execute his plan. In other words, it learned from its experiences.
A safety system must have the same characteristics. It has to be able to adapt procedures and policies at a pace which allows it to manage the outcomes that are associated with the tasks of the organization. In order to accomplish this it must:
1. Collect relevant statistics and information (facts)
2. Organize and analyze the data (investigate)
3. Implement countermeasures
4. Monitor changes, and
5. Communicate with all the components.
A safety management system must be comprehensive in order to allow the organization to learn from its experience. The goal of a management system is to implement a chosen strategy by allocating resources at critical tasks (Kausek, 2007). A system is defined as a set of interacting or interdependent entities, real or abstract, that form a whole. The whole is the operating process that governs the core activities mentioned above.
The structure of the system is defined from its processes. It is further described as “open” or “closed.” A closed system operates by itself without interaction from other entities or inputs. “Open” describes a system which interacts with entities in an environment. Safety is an “open” system. It has many customers that have input to it and then it produces an output or service to the customer.
We can further describe systems as high functioning or low functioning. This refers to the exchange of information between the inputs and the system. In other words safety is an “open” and “highly functional” system. Safety continually exchanges feedback to its inputs in order to maintain close alignment. So, it collects data, analyzes it, adapts to it, coordinates change, and then resets to do it again.
A simple schematic of this exchange could be drawn in this manner.
In this basic schematic you can see that safety has closely aligned inputs. This drawing can be made better. Missing is the names of the customers and the services or outputs that safety produces to each.
A systematic approach encompasses all levels of an organization. The functions can be spread among each level or among its inputs, if so structured. This helps in implementing the change and directing its continuation. But the bigges.

Your job is to decide which ONE of the seven is the WORST vice to possess and make an argument that explains what makes it worse than the others on the list. Be careful not to make an argument that includes two or tries to address both sides. The purpose of this essay is to inform and persuade the reader that ONE of these sins supersedes all others. Use examples from Serial, the OJ series/case, Galileo articles, any of our serial killer notes, etc. One approach might be to choose which killer you think was the worst and focus on how the specific vice caused him to go down this path to destruction. Consider which sin has the most lasting effects or severe consequences and why.
Possible information to include in your essay:
o What is __________ (envy, greed, etc.)?
o Why is ___________ so bad? How is __________ a poison that hurts both others and oneself?
o What virtue is the opposite of ________? What are some ways to get rid of ________ from our lives?
· Use at least two CREDIBLE outside sources in addition to the podcast scripts (try to use at least 2 references to secondary sources in each body paragraph). Make sure that you cite your sources correctly. Use plenty of specific, concrete examples to support your argument. Write clearly and coherently. Focus on effectively using the rhetorical strategies we have discussed in class (see Rhetorical Devices sheet or the Thank You for Arguing pdf on D2L for more info on this if you need ideas on what this should look like in context). Also, there are numerous examples of essays on D2L for you to peruse.
· Be sure to format your essay according to MLA (12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, labeled correctly, title, etc.).

1.The plaintiffs—the Nicols, Hoerrs, Turners, and Andersons—purchased subdivision lots from Ken Nelson. The lots bordered an undeveloped tract and offered scenic views of an adjacent lake. When Nelson and his partners began taking steps to develop the previously undeveloped tract, the plaintiffs sued. The trial court found that the plaintiffs had purchased their lots only after receiving oral assurances from Nelson that (1) the tract would remain undeveloped open space, (2) the property was owned by a company that had no plans to build on the land, (3) he held an option to purchase the property if it became available, and (4) he would not develop the land if it came under his ownership. Concluding that the plaintiffs had reasonably relied on Nelson’s oral promise, the trial court enjoined Nelson’s development of the property based on promissory estoppel. Nelson appealed, arguing that the Statute of Frauds, which requires that contracts involving interests in real property be in writing, barred enforcement of his oral promise.
