OVERIVEW
Over the past decade, there have been a number of research studies that
have examined the potential positive effects of Whole Body Vibration
(WBV) in patients with Fibromyalgia (FM) — a diagnosis characterized by
non-inflammatory musculoskeletal pain, identified by areas of localized
tenderness in at least 11 of 18 identifiable tender points.
Although the exact cause of this disorder remains unknown, 90%
of individuals who have FM are female. Symptoms include chronic
widespread pain, stiffness, fatigue, and depression, in addition to other
associated conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). All of these
issues can contribute to poor sleep, which has detrimental effects of
overall quality of life.
Due to these challenges, physical activity generally becomes very
limited: perpetuating the cycle of weakness, which contributes to
negative effects on function. Balance deficits, in turn, become common
and often lead to falls, which of course have implications for further injury
and pain.
While medication is often prescribed to ease FM symptoms, studies
support the positive effects of non-drug interventions, including various
forms of gentle exercise. Encouragingly, findings have shown that
including WBV as an adjunct to such an exercise program is associated
with various positive effects on function and quality of life.
Following is a discussion of the top 5 reasons to consider WBV training
to reduce the symptoms of FM.

REASON 1
Decreased Pain
One study interested in pain
management was aimed at
investigating the effectiveness of
a WBV program with exercise, as
compared to a traditional exercise
program for women with FM.
The program was implemented twice
a week for six weeks, and included a
protocol which consisted of aerobic
exercise, specific upper and lower body
stretches, and relaxation techniques.
The treatment group included these
exercises alongside the addition
of a WBV routine at a frequency of
30 Hz, starting with 4.5 minutes,
and increasing up to 18 minutes.
(Frequency refers to the speed at
which the platform vibrates, which
associated with increased activation
of muscle tissue for the purpose of
increasing muscle strength).
Compared to the exercise group alone,
the group that included the WBV
regimen demonstrated a significant
reduction in pain. 1

Fatigue is a difficult symptom of FM that interferes
significantly with daily function. The same study previously
referenced also indicated that subjects reported a reduction
in fatigue.
Scores from the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ)
were used to compared fatigue level before and after
completing the WBV + exercise program, and indicated a
significant decrease as compared to no significant change in
the exercise-only group and control group. 1

REASON 3
Research has indicated that balance deficits in individuals with FM likely
result from a decrease in muscle strength and coordination, as well as a
from a change in how the body processes sensory information.
One study in this area cited improvements in dynamic balance following
WBV training, as measured by a device which determines degree of body
sway in various directions (Biodex F1c Stability System). These results were
appreciated after subjects completed an 8-week WBV program 3 times a
week at 30 Hz, with the addition of a supervised exercise program, where
subjects indicated a more significant improvement in balance as compared
to the exercise only group. 2
Another related research investigation also demonstrated improved
balance as a result of WBV therapy, as noted by improved scores on the
Berg Balance Scale, which is a standardized balance test. Participants in
this study completed a relatively brief WBV program at 12.5 Hz — with 6
repetitions on the WBV platform — initially for 30 seconds, then increased
to 45 seconds, and finally to 60 seconds, which was maintained for the last
several weeks of the study. 3

REASON 4
The negative impact of FM on mental health and
overall sense of wellbeing has been widely cited in
the overall body of FM research, and has also been
examined specifically with regard to the effect of
WBV training.
One recent study here utilized the Beck Depression
Inventory (BDI) to evaluate the outcome of a WBV
program on depression levels in subjects with FM,
and found that BDI scores decreased significantly
after participants completed a WBV program for 4
weeks at 30 Hz, while performing various exercises
on the platform. 4
This finding is quite encouraging for individuals
not only struggling with multiple medications for
mood and pain management, but is suggestive
of the ability of non-drug interventions to deliver
meaningful relief.
Decreased Depression

REASON 5
FM is associated with a decline in quality of life due to its widespread effects on
physical function and mood. One study concerned with this problem evaluated
the effects of an 8 week WBV program on quality of life in patients with FM.
Results demonstrated a more significant improvement in SF-36 scores (a survey
used to measure self-reported health related quality of life) in the group who
performed a WBV program for 6 weeks at 20 Hz, as compared to an exercise
group alone. 5

WHY HYPERVIBE?
In summary, the research supports WBV as a
safe, feasible, and effective exercise tool for
reducing the symptoms and improving function
in individuals with FM. But what makes Hypervibe
the right choice for you?
Our unique design combines several essential
features and technologies that are necessary
to maximize your WBV results. As such, when
comparing Hypervibe with other products on
the market, it is important to understand which
elements yield the highest quality and best
results for the money.
The following discussion aims to clarify a few of
the most important factors to aid in your decision-
making process.

PIVOTAL PLATFORM
WHOLE BODY VIBRATION
Hypervibe’s pivotal design was based on a unit called
the Galileo: the pioneer of this technology, which has
been studied by space programs around the world. The
Galileo, however, is not widely available to consumers
due to its high cost.
Murray Seaton, the inventor of Hypervibe, revolutionized
WBV technology through the creation of this high
quality, compact unit, which includes a pivotal platform.
Other units on the market which boast similar results
are sometimes designed with lineal platforms — the
distinction here being the way in which the platform
moves to deliver the vibration.
A lineal platform primarily moves in an up / down
fashion, whereas the pivotal platform includes a rotation
component. This feature follows the normal movement
of the pelvis and hips, thereby producing superior results
in terms of muscle activation throughout the body. In
addition, it reduces the amount of vibration that passes
upward through the body into the head, which creates a
more comfortable experience for the user.
As WBV is a new sensory experience for most individuals,
it is important to note that the use of a pivotal platform
also reduces or eliminates the possibility of unpleasant
sensations that occur more frequently with use of a lineal
platform, such as nausea and dizziness.
We actually found that Hypervibe was equal to or greater
than Galelio from a technical standpoint for a fraction of
the cost, and their customer service has been amazing.

RANGE OF FREQUENCIES
Frequency refers to the speed of movement of the platform, which determines how
the body receives and processes the vibration stimulus. Hypervibe’s wide range of
frequencies, as low as 5Hz and up to 35Hz, allows the user to set the pace of the
vibration to target specific goals such as relaxation, balance training, or strengthening.
It is important to note here that this feature is also unique to our design as compared
to our competitors.
Units that only produce high range frequencies, or those that only produce low range
frequencies, do not offer the same range of benefits as Hypervibe. Our lower frequency
settings can be used to promote widespread relaxation — which creates a calming
effect on the nervous system to minimize pain and enhance mental clarity — while our
higher frequency settings stimulate muscle strength, bone growth, weight loss, and
hormonal benefits.
Higher frequency settings produce increased
muscle contractions, which promote improved
strength and power. This, in turn, can positively
impact posture, balance, and proprioception.

COST
Hypervibe is proud to be the only unit of its type on the market under
$3,000 (with our entry G10 model retailing under $1,000). While this type
of unit is very expensive to produce, Hypervibe’s creator is committed
to quality.
The majority of individuals who purchase Hypervibe initially do so with
a specific purpose in mind; however, most people who are seeking
this type of exercise program are also contending with more than one
ailment or injury. With that in mind, Hypervibe is able to help people
address various fitness and health goals.

For example, an individual may
wish to use Hypervibe primarily
for strength training, but can
also benefit from weight loss,
