Hyderabad as UT for 10 years
The proposal of making Hyderabad, a union territory is back and Group of Ministers (GOM) has
made some vital recommendations regarding bifurcation to the Central government.
The Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana met in Delhi this afternoon had sort out certain issues
pertaining to the draft bill, including the nine amendments suggested by the Ministers from
Seemandhra region
The buzz in political circles is that one of their primary recommendations was to declare Hyderabad
as a Union Territory.Going by reports from Delhi, the changes include Hyderabad as Union Territory
for 10 years, special package for Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions and bearing the total cost
to-be-formed-capital by Central government
They also demanded that the Bhadrachalam sub-division in the state should be incorporated into
Seemandhra region as this is the submerged area of Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project,

2. which will be part of residuary Andhra Pradesh.
However, the response of the GoM to their demands was not immediately known.Cabinet will be
taking the final decision on the contents of the bill and will be forwarding it to the President. The bill
will be introduced in Rajya Sabha on February 10th.
While these recommendations are likely to provide some breath to the SA leaders, it will surely
disappoint those pitching for a separate Telangana state.Especially, the MPs, MLAs and ministers
from the Telangana region are bound to oppose it. We have to wait and watch how the Telanganites
will be reacting to these last minute changes.
