This document discusses the debate between single-payer healthcare (universal coverage) versus the current American healthcare system of private insurance. Proponents of a single-payer system argue that it would reduce costs since the U.S. currently spends more per capita than any other nation without better outcomes. Supporters of the current system counter that it creates jobs and allows access to the best doctors and technology, though the document concludes that reforms are still needed since many Americans face medical debt and the system is underperforming overall.
4. The Facts…
The United States spends more per capita
Than any other country in the world. (And by A LOT!!)
5. Current Healthcare Facts….
The United States is under a
third party payer system.
When this term is used, the
first party is the patient, the
second is the doctor, and the
third is the insurance
company (or the government
for medicare recipients).
When you use a third party,
there is room to increase
costs;
simple middleman theory.
Notice who is
Getting BIGGER
And who is getting
Smaller…
6. Why Should Corporations Get
Better Treatment Then Us!
During WWII, there was a period when the government fixed wages.
No moving wages meant there was no way to attract skilled workers.
Companies compensated when they realized that there was a loophole
in the law that allowed them to offer health care as a benefit.
It has remained that way ever since.
Did You Know?
That Businesses
can claim tax
deductions for
healthcare cost
but YOU can’t!
Third, corporations are still able to claim insurance premiums as tax
Deductions. Individuals, however, are not. This again encourages the role
of health care to remain with a business. Since a company can claim
insurance premiums as deductible, that means it costs
less for a company to provide insurance
than it would for an individual.
7. Can you think of anything you would rather have spent that
money on?
Education? Infrastructure? Debt? New Healthcare Technology?
10. FOR Keeping Our Current
System
America has the best Doctors
and best technology in the
world.
If these aren’t true then why do
so many people from other
countries move to America to
become doctors?
Nursing is the top women’s
career choice in America.
We have a high life expectancy
that is nearly 80 years old.
11. Current Healthcare
The current healthcare system
creates millions of jobs for
American and American
companies.
Nursing is the #1 field of choice
for women’s career choices in
2013.
If a Single Payer healthcare
system was introduced then
millions could lose their jobs with
no more insurance companies
and less pay at hospitals.
12. Conclusion….
The United States is going down
on nearly every survey on
Healthcare.
60% of the Country is in debt
due to Medical debt.
We spend the most and get the
least quality.
We have the tools to be the best
and are underachieving.
Every American has the right to
be healthy and get help when
they need it, no matter their
salaries or position.
