Humphries High School Biology I
- 1. High School Biology For: 9th –12th grade students Course Objective: The main goal of this course is to help students gain knowledge about, and an appreciation for, God’s awesome creation. Course Description: Students will study in depth many of God’s creatures from Kingdoms Anamalia, Plantae, Fungi, Monera and Protista. They will learn about cellular biology and genetics. There are modules that cover the chemistry of life and ecology and more! We will do a variety of labs and dissections in class to help make biology “come alive” for your students. Expectations: There will be reading and homework questions assigned each week. Students should expect to spend about 30 minutes a day on coursework. Students will be required to keep a lab notebook for the experiments and labs, most of which will be done during class time. Students will take the module tests at home and then bring them to class and I will grade and return them. Required Materials: Our textbook will be Exploring Creation with Biology 2nd Edition published by Apologia Educational Ministries. This text is written from a Biblical creationist perspective. You will also need to purchase the Solutions and Tests for Exploring Creation with Biology 2nd Edition. These can be purchased together from Christian Book Distributors for $60.00. Please make sure your student has the 2nd edition. In addition, your student will need a package of 3x5 note cards and 3 notebooks – one for tests, one for homework questions and one for labs. Fees: Tuition for this course for the year is $250. $125 is due on or before September 14th and the remaining $125 is due January 18th. (Other payment options are available upon request.) There will be a supplies fee of $20 due on or before September 14th. This will cover lab supplies and dissection specimens and tools. Tutor information: I am a follower of Jesus Christ first and foremost. My husband, Dave, and I have 4 children all of whom are home schooled. I have a passion for God’s truth and for teaching others about that truth. I serve in the elementary Sunday School program at my church. I love science, especially biology, because it can open students’ eyes to the amazingness and awesomeness of God, the creator of all life. I have a B.S. in Biological Science and Secondary Education from Michigan State University. Before becoming a home school mom I taught 6th –9th grade science courses at a private school. I look forward to tutoring with TLC, getting to know your students and exploring God’s creation together with them.
