Structure of the H2 (place a picture of the structure of the hummer here)
Basic idea of our design Our idea was to design a car that would resemble (on a smaller scale) a hummer automobile. Our design is unique and practical and that is why we feel it should be voted to go on to the next round
Main topics we intend to discuss Structure of the car Running the car- solar panel steering and brakes budget Why our design should be selected!
Structure of the Hummer Wood used for main frame -inexpensive, -strong -can easily be cut and joined by screws or bolts
Structure(cont.)
Solar panel placed on top- supported by 2 x 4’s (place a picture of the structure of the hummer here)
2 x 4’s also used along the bottom as a seat for driver
Seat- broken chair – no cost
6 ft pieces- used for the bottom of the car (place a picture of the structure of the hummer here)
- ¼ inch plywood used on outside (place a picture of the structure of the hummer here)
Running the car-via Solar Panel -a belt is wrapped around the motor’s axle is also wrapped around the axle betweens the wheels -when the axel of the motor spins, the friction between itself and the belt will cause the axel between the wheels to spin. -belt is tight around both axels in order to minimize slipping
Driving Mechanism
Brakes http://www.gokartsupply.com/brakes.htm
Steering (picture of steering component) - Will be purchasing a steering kit -
Budget $$$ 12 V motor 15.00 sheet of ½ inch plywood 20.00 4 wheels 25.60 steering kit 23.60 axels 67.00 drive belt 22.00 2 bearings 40.00 brake band 20.00 2x4 beams (5) 19.90 4x6 plywood 44.00 Total $297.10 Lots of budget flexibility in case other design problems arise !!!
How to minimize forces against us - The structure of our hummer allows for a very minimal air drag due to the cross sectional area (even though air resistance wont be a major factor) Drag force for our vehicle-42.66 Nt -Our tires are fully inflated to allow for as little rolling friction as possible- F=U r N
Sites we used http://auto.howstuffworks.com/steering.htm http://www.formulasun.org/education/seles9.html http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/aug97/869082655.Eg.r.html
Summary The H2 Solar Powered Vehicle is top of the line in this new solar age. It will be thrust forth by a powerful 1/3 horsepower electric DC motor. Its sturdy frame will be supported by wood 2” x 4”s, with sleek ¼” plywood along the side. The solar panel will be attached overhead, sucking up the sun’s energy like a vampire sucking blood . Full with loads of bling bling luxury, rolling around on shiny 6 inch rims will never get old.
