2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Depending in human resource department to recruiting or hiring the
outstanding employee, providing applicable training and development program
can lead an organization to meet the target in a successful way as well as it gives
the organization a competitive advantage. When organizations face obstacles
with recruiting, maintain and to motivate their workers that time organization
should focus on their human resource department. Basically this department
plays the vital role in the organization. There are some ample reasons to figure
out to see the how human resource management can become a competitive
advantage for an organization;
What is Competitive Advantage?
In 1985 PORTER defined competitive advantage as organizations competitive
advantage as well as competitive strategy. Along that, porter came up with two
critical questions, those are as following;
What is the competitive strategies and alternatives for the industry?
What is the recent position for an organization in the competitive
environment?
Firstly, organization should analyze the following steps to come up with the
above questions;
First of all, they have to find out; what sort of change and organization do
require, understanding the organizations culture as well as consideration on the
compelling forces. How can company can achieve the following target.
Apart from that, Porter came up with five competitive forces which can lead the
organization towards success or failure;

Hire Skilled and Professional with Experience
Human resource managers can easily find out the strategic role for an
organization and they can play the internal role for the organization by choosing
a professional HR recruit specialist. Executive human resource professional can
design the job description and training program to develop the professional
work line for the organization to run the organization smoothly.
Helps to Achieve the Objectives
The main chief and preeminent base of human resource management is that; HR
department helps the organization to achieve their mission and target by using
their strategic rules and regulation among the employee. Apart from that, they
abetment to lower the cost by using the maximum net income from the
allocated resources.
Professional Development
This training policy is obtained by HR department of the organization, HR
managers allocate the training and development. When any sort of training is
provided those training is developed and created professionally to make use to

do the proper use of the employee. By providing training to employee we can
develop their talent and can be useful to meet the organizational target.
Determine the Beneficial Training Program
An organization without an HR department is unthinkable, because to lead the
company to obtain the goal they are the only one who plays the systematic and
strategic role for the organization. Firstly, they find out company’s strategies and
the weak point of an organization. Later on usually the generate and develop a
consequence a training program for the employee which is mandatory to
compete the competitive market.
Union-ManagementRelationship
Nowadays many industries face bankruptcy because of higher Labour cost, only
way to reduce the cost is to reduce the wage reductions. In very few days,
American Airlines, Boeing and McDonnell have negotiated two-tiered wage
system to reduce the total cost by reducing the total Labour cost, A HR manager
is normally involved these kind of Unions and having good relation with an
organization helps the organization to deal with some sorts of problems.
Importanceof Individuals
In an organization to increase the competitive advantage by analyzing the
importance of each employee’s contribution. Organization should empower
those employees to move expeditiously to attain the organization competitive
goal.
Financial Function
Finance is critical and curtail for any organization. If finance of an organization is
good they the organization is going good to achieve their target if finance is not
good, then it creates a big problem for the organization. It relays on the HR
department to choose the right person for that specific role. Organizations
9. KOWSHICK AHMED 9
should be aware about their financial situation that how they are going through
with their finance.
Changing Management
Organization have to respond rapidly with the new change of the market to keep
the organization in competitive strategy for the growth of the company.
Development of new technology, required change in technology, change in the
culture and trends organization have to cope with such kind of critical situation.
Employees are not bother or aware for these types of problems because they
might lead the organization motto and the task to be done as it is allocated. HR
department is responsible to adopt those above changes as they are responsible
for the organization. To face those challenges HR department would come up
with new management change. This change can be strategically change, training
the employee to face the change or it could be being changes in autocratic
management. Because they come up with the solution of how to do or what to
do?
Discipline and Morality
Human Resource management team assure to have a disciplined and moral in
the organization through the performance. It can be done by offering rewards
and promotion and by making sure a safer environment for each and everyone
in the organization. Employees would be happy to work when they will have a
work flow and will fell safer to have a secure environment. Along that, in my own
perspectives, everyone works to make their own future career so as always they
give their best performance for their company, so they should get promoted as
position vacancies where it is required.
Change in Demographics and Diversity
Organizations briskly is balanced on the scoreboard which is influenced by the
nature of Labour force. Whenever they recruit more people for the organization
to continue the workflow. When new people get in to the organization they
10. KOWSHICK AHMED 10
might not be the similar like the others who is presently working there. They
might be difference from culture, religion, trust, ethics and so other facts. That
creates diversity. So HR manager should bring this diversity as a strategy, thus
can lead the group to meet the target and the goal.
HRM (Human Resource Management) is the administration of a business
organization’s staff and worker’s. Moreover, it is attributed as human resources
or allocation. An organization’s human resource department is pledged for
implementing, recruiting, training, developing and implementing rules and
regulation and to make sure a safety environment for the organization’s workers.
However, it is associated with the relationship, supporting and managing
between the employer and employee. HR has been known as the core of the
organization as well as the fundamental element of the organization.
11. KOWSHICK AHMED 11
In a sum from my own perspectives, I would like to say that, to run a business
organization and to compete the competitive market organizations should have
Human Resource management department. However, no company can not
imagine themselves without HR department in term of retaining profit. In a case,
this department helps the organization to improve their work activity efficiently
and smoothly by allocating the right person for the right work place by following
some aspects, alike; recruiting, training and development of the staff. As well as,
HR Department also comes with strategic ideas and view for the organization
and the create an organization culture in term of making the organization
towards generating profit. Apart from that, human resource department helps
the company to dream through a healthy financial motto, not only this but also
they are also responsible to create a safer work environment for all the staff
members whoever is associated with the organization in term of drive though
organizations aim by undertaking some task underlying rules and regulations.
Apart from above importance of Human resource management there are some
other importance of this department as well, alike; it is beneficial for individual to
grow up their career plan by doing research and obtaining some skills at
workplace. As well as, it also involves functional management alike; planning,
developing, organizing, controlling and evaluating. It creates the diversity at
workplace with a team sprit and team work. Thus also helps everyone involved
the organization to work as a team member, to learn about others culture, to
respect other views, ideas and thoughts. Along that it also forecast future
expectations and current ability and also helpful to analyze organizations
change.
