System Support Services Division
Mandatory Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Training -
Information for Students and Student Placement Coordinators
Requirements
Prior to Commencement
1. Access OHS information available online via Student Deed website.
2. Complete the online Health and Safety Orientation training module on the ELMO system.
It is important for students completing the online Health and Safety Orientation module to
select “Student” from the Employee Stream section.
Upon completion of the online Health and Safety Orientation module, students will receive an
email with a link to their certificate of completion. If students are unable to print their
certificates they should forward the email to their Placement Coordinator as evidence of
completion.
Post Commencement
3. Receive local site induction (local and/or unit specific safe work procedures). Site induction
may also include General Evacuation Instructions.
4. Refer to the “Student OHS Training Schedule” on page 2 of this fact sheet. The schedule
outlines other mandatory OHS training requirements and the time frames in which they should
be completed.
5. Additionally, students should be assessed on role specific task competencies prior to
performing the task. (Example: Patient handling tasks)
6. Where training is required to perform a particular task, the Student Placement Coordinator shall
provide access to additional Health and Safety training.
Training Reports
Monthly ELMO training reports are supplied to HHS’s. Contact your local L&D or HR
representative to acquire a copy of this report or email Learning@health.qld.gov.au to find out who
receives this report in your Hospital and Health Service.
Alternatively, coordinators can also request reports from their local OHS Units.
