3.  1810 First trade union was established in US.
 Trade union movement started in India with
the forming of Bombay mill hands
association in 1890 by N.K . Lokhands.
Amalgamated society of railways servants,
printer union of Calcutta in 1905, madras and
Calcutta postal unions 1907 were other
associations formed in the beginning of this
movement.
 there were no trade unions in true sense but
rather social org.

4.  The main aim of these org. were to promote
welfare activities and spread literacy among
workers.
 Not affiliated to any central org / federation
 The trade union movement developed fast
particularly during and after world war 1.
 The factors like economic due to rise cost of
living ,
 emergences of union leadership contributed
to development of trade unionism in india.

5.  Number of unions such as Indian seamen’s
union in Calcutta and Bombay , Punjab press
union employees formed with a view to
ameliorate(bad) the condition of working
class.
 Number of nationalist leaders like C.R.Dass,
Moti lal Nehru, jawahar lal nehru . Subas
Chander Bose V.V. GIRI, S,A Danges S, V
Ghate .
 In 1920 all India trade union congress
(AITUC) was formed under the leadership of
lala lajpat rai.

6.  A landmark in the history of labor
movement was enactment of the trade
unions act 1926
 AITUC split and all india trade union
federation (AITUF) was formed N. M Joshi.
 AITCU had another split in 1931 and Red
trade union congress (RTUC) was formed by
B.T ranadive and S.V. Deshpande.
 In 1935 RTUC merged into AITCU and in
1940 NTUF also merged with AITCU

7.  In 1947 INTUC (Indian national trade union
congress)
 Socialist later formed Hind mazdoor
panchayat (H.M.S) IN 1962
 Confederation Free trade union .
