Howard Ashman was an American lyricist and librettist best known for his work on films produced by Disney. He wrote the lyrics for films like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, both of which helped revive Disney's animation department. Tragically, Ashman died of complications from AIDS in 1991 at the young age of 40, though his work lives on through the Disney films he helped create.
