What is an ABC Poem? An ABC poem usually has 5 lines, sometimes it is a little longer it creates a mood, picture, or feeling It can start with any letter in the alphabet but lines 2-4 must start with the next letter that follows
Lines and Syllables There is no specific number of syllables for this poem Lines 1 through 4 are made up of words, phrases or clauses  The first word of each line (1-4) is in alphabetical order from the first word (ex. G-J, P-S, etc.) Line 5 is one sentence, beginning with any letter.
What Next? Decide what you want to write about (pick a topic) Brainstorm about that topic, writing down all words and phrases that you can think of Look at all your words and choose what letter you want to start with, most start with the letter  “A” until they get the hang of things
Example Topic – Ice Cream Brainstorm – cold, drippy, cone, nice to eat on a hot day, chocolate my favorite, summertime, hot, good, fun, sundaes, toppings, treat, and sweet Choose your letter – I think I will start with “C”
Ice Cream C  hocolate is my favorite D  ripping down my hand E  ating it quickly F  earing that it will melt What a wonderful treat on a hot summer day!
