Elie Wiesel’s Night and Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding...
Elie Wiesel s Night and Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place
Many outsiders strive but fail to truly comprehend the haunting incident of World War II s Holocaust.
None but survivors and witnesses succeed to sense and live the timeless pain of the event which
repossesses the core of human psyche. Elie Wiesel and Corrie Ten Boom are two of these survivors
who, through their personal accounts, allow the reader to glimpse empathy within the soul and the
heart. Elie Wiesel (1928 ), a journalist and Professor of Humanities at Boston University, is an author
of 21 books. The first of his collection, entitled Night, is a terrifying account of Wiesel s boyhood
experience as a WWII Jewish prisoner of Hitler s dominant and secretive Nazi party. ... Show more

These strong survivors pose as teachers and role models by revealing strengths, weaknesses and
survival techniques. Wiesel and Ten Boom survive against the odds, but not without physical and
emotional scars.
The unsung hero and heroin pair experience tremendous suffering, but confront that affliction with
distinct contrary responses. The theme and style of Wiesel and Ten Boom reveal individual personal
beliefs and strength levels in reaction to their concentration camp experience during WWII s
Holocaust. Theme is the window which Wiesel and Ten Boom open through words and thoughts to
reveal the true purpose of their tales. Although both authors experience the grime of concentration
camp and grief of family loss, their responses to this suffering are distinct.
This distinctness is not unexpected, for as one s strengths and beliefs are personal, as is the effect of
events effecting those strengths and beliefs. Wiesel and Ten Boom state the purpose of their self
exposed stories clearly, and their purposes differ just as clearly. Wiesel stresses the importance of
applying lessons of the past to the present for the sake of the world s future. He writes to create a
feeling of such horror and catharsis within the reader to prevent the evil of the Holocaust or any type
of unjust persecution to ever occur again. He opens the reader s eyes with vividly horrible images of
human suffering and creates no barrier

Summary Of Yuma Buck And Nude Squaw By Henry Buehman
The piece Yuma Buck and Nude Squaw by Henry Buehman taken place in the Tucson Arizona
Territory in the 1870s is a visual representation of colonialism within the 70s. Because Buehman was
a white man and an outsider looking into the Indian community that he studied, audiences are easily
able to see the informed accents of colonialism in his work. This photo in particular represents the the
concept of the colonial gaze quite well. By definition the colonial gaze is how westerners and non
westerners see Indigenous people. The individuals within the photo look as if they have a lot of
disinterest in the photoshoot, which is what Buehman may have been hoping for. Because they are not
smiling or in a confident pose it is almost as if Buehman is intentionally trying to represent the
colonial gaze. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the photo it is as if he uses the woman to represent what the Europeans see in Indigenous people
such as savage, uncivilized, and dirty, and on the other hand he dresses the man in more of a European
outfit of choice with the black vest and shirt and pants. He still somewhat represents a dirtier side of
the man aswell because he is not wearing any shoes, but because his clothing presents European
culture it is almost as if he is more powerful in the photo. Buehman seems to be playing with power in
this photo as well as he dresses what looks to be the woman on the right as vulnerable by showering
her breasts and wearing a skirt where as the man is dressed more formally. At the same time he
represents a kind of resistance to colonialism by wanting to dress a man in clothes similar to his, and
showing that he can look good in those

Comfort Women Research Paper
Comfort Women and the Japanese Denial of Forced Prostitution During the time of the Japanese
Empire, when Japan had taken control of Korea and was attempting to expand its territory further, the
Japanese military utilized sex slaves and prostitutes called comfort women in order to boost morale
and prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However, after World War II, these comfort
women all but vanished from Japanese history, only to reemerge in a large movement in the 1990s
demanding the Japanese recognize the war crimes committed against these women. Since then, Japan
changed its official stance several times on whether or not the comfort women existed and whether or
not they were forced into prostitution against their will by the ... Show more content on

While Tokyo drew up a compensation plan for the comfort women in December 1994, this
compensation plan called for raising non government funds, which was rejected by a coalition of
South Korean civic groups because they felt that the government itself should pay for its crimes (Soh
Korean Comfort Women 1237). Japan also heavily downplayed the atrocities of the comfort woman
system. Japanese schoolbooks from the time generally omitted the existence of the comfort women,
and seemed to have the view that all Asians suffered as a collective in the war, which completely
ignores the fact that the Japanese subjugated other Asian ethnicities (Nishioka Behind the Comfort
Women Controversy 5). Many Japanese did not even believe the testimony of the comfort women, and
believed the Asahi Shimbun article was falsified to sell papers (Nishioka The Comfort Women Issue
19). This led to Japan working hard and succeeding in preventing any sort of resolution on the comfort
women issue at the general assembly meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva in
April 1996 (Soh Korean Comfort Women

Ecuador Research Paper
Ecuador is a small country on the Pacific coast of South America. It is bisected laterally by the
equator, and longitudinally by the Andes. The Andes divide the country s mainland into three distinct
regions, the coast to the west, the mountains, and the rainforest to the east. It is the Andes that this
paper is focused on, giving special attention to the mountain Cotopaxi.
The Andes run along the western side of South America, starting in Venezuela and continuing through
Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, all the way to the southern tip of Chile. In Ecuador,
they are bound by the Pacific to the west, and the Amazon Basin to the east. They began to form in the

less than a degree south of the equator. It is almost perfectly conical, rising to a height of 5,897 meters
above sea level, and is covered with glaciers from about 4,500 meters up to the summit. The glaciers
cover a total area of 21 km2, as of 2004. At the summit, the crater is about 800 meters across, and
extends to a depth of 334 meters (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The primary rivers it drains water into
are the Rio Cutuchi to the south, the Rio Pita to the north, and the Rio Tamboto to the east (Aguilera et
al, 2004, p. 163). It is along these rivers than many towns are located. Along the Rio Cutuchi, the city
of Latacunga is a mere 43 km away from the volcano; while Sangolquí is located to the north, in the
Valle de los Chillos, about 40 km downstream along the Rio Pita from Cotopaxi (Aguilera et al, 2004,
p. 163). The capital of Ecuador, Quito, lies only about 50 km away to the northwest (Aguilera et al,
2004, p. 162).
The glaciers that give Cotopaxi its stunning appearance are one of the factors that make Cotopaxi so
dangerous. When the volcano has an eruption, the hot material issued from the crater melts portions of
the glaciers on the summit, inevitably triggering lahars. Cotopaxi is known for having syn eruptive
lahars. According to Aguilera et al, (2004),

A Hero As A Hero
Imagine if you were in a world without heroes that are brave, hardworking and show self sacrifice. It
would be a total nightmare if everything will be disorganized. If a hero shows they are brave they will
be respected and everyone will look up to them as a role model. For example, people that are veterans,
policemen, and firefighters show us the US citizens every day that they will fight in a war to save our
country no matter what it takes. For a hero to show self sacrifice they put other people first in a life
treating citation. For instance, a criminal comes into a store an older man immediately goes in front of
a little girl by herself. Hero won t think he will just do it even if it puts his life in danger. Lastly, a hero
is someone who is hard working. Say a person does not get the job they want, they never give up and
stick to it and work hard. A hero may make some mistakes along the way but they remain brave show
self sacrifice and work hard.
A hero is someone who is very brave. For instance, a person who is brave enough to speak their mind
about controversial issues is a hero. For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. stood up for all the colored
people who did not have a voice. He was aware of the possible consequences of his actions, which
included putting himself in danger; however, he still stood up for what he believed in. He was a hero
because he bravely sacrificed himself to help others have equal rights in America. When a person does
good things for someone else in need they are showing they like to help others. When people help
others in need that makes them a good person and you never know who what will happen if you help
that person. In the end, a hero is a role model to people all over the world who want to be like him.
An excellent example of a hero is Pfc. Tristan Segers. In the article Soldier home After losing his leg
in Afghanistan Tristan Segers keeps going with his life not feeling bad about his leg. I just told all the
doctors that I didn t want my life to be different than it was before (Fiege 68). Even though Tristan
was knocked down, he got right back up and stayed strong. A hero is also someone who inspires
people to do good on their part. In this case, Tristan has a lot of

How The Signs That Can Be Present Within These Phenomena
Photography in itself, is a means of communication, it can be used in a variety of ways in order to
narrate the world around us [Campbell, D (2010)]. As a species, humanity itself has proven to be
visual beings, creating pictures across a variety of mediums in order to express ourselves and
represent what is happening in the world around us. Images, whether they be paintings, drawings, or
photographs, have played and continue to play a very important part in our society, as everyone is able
to understand the image and interpret the story from it, despite barriers such as language which may
prohibit initial communication, and the work of scholars and anthropologists, and even consumers of
visual culture work tirelessly to decrypt and derive meaning from these mediums [Perlmutter, DD
(2003)]. Analysis and understanding of the signs that can be present within these phenomena is known
as semiotics , which is derived from the Greek word semeion, for sign . It can be applied across a
broad range of cultural mediums used in communication. Semiotics stresses the open ended
possibilities for any interpretation and the indeterminacy of meaning that can be taken from visual
cues, and within photography, signs and visual communication of a story is paramount [Semiotics
(2010)]. But is photography, in particular, landscape photography, able to convey the fullness of a
story, and can everyone interpret the images and signs within those images the way they were meant
to be understood, or

Quantitative Article Summary
In this article, the researchers used the quantitative method by distributing a structural clinical
interview and life events checklist to one hundred and fifty nine women who had dealt with assault
trauma in their lifetime. With this in mind, the researchers were able to gather statistics from the data
these women provided for them.
Moreover, the quantitative method is used by researches who want to discover statistics and facts by
analyzing data in a numerical way. Unlike this article, the qualitative method is used by researches
who want to gather data through observations and interviews based on what the participants say or do.
The qualitative method seeks to explore and collect opinions and motivations on the research topic
instead of collecting numerical data.

Furthermore, the article suggests that there needs be continued research over a long period of time to
clarify the factors that could affect resilience in women exposed to PTE s. After that research is
performed, we could potentially help women in clinical interventions by knowing what factors could
help and encourage recovery.
In the group collaboration, we did have a discussion about qualitative vs. quantitative research and
how the article could be difficult in some sections to asses which method the researches performed.
Other than that, hypothetically, an opposing view could come up from someone questioning the results
based on how data was accumulated since the study could not determine how supportive relationships
could affect the outcome of the diagnosis of each woman.
This research was performed to help identify psychological factors that affect the outcome of women
who are exposed to assault related PTE s. In return, those findings could enhance clinical
professionals and others in understanding how to help women who need assistance to recover from
such a traumatic

However, it is not illegal to perform surgery on a competent patient without a signed form. From a
legal point of view, the crucial point is that the patient has given valid consent, whether that is verbally

procedures are; firstly, it is the foundation to ensure that consent is obtained and this fact is
communicated to the other healthcare members; secondly, the consent form is a form of evidence that
the patient has given consent for the procedure, thus a legal matter cannot arise from this

Acceptance of Death in Yeats’s ‘An Irish Airman Foresees...
W. B. Yeats s poem An Irish Airman Foresees his Death and Shakespeare s poem Come Away, Come
Away, Death both deal with the theme of impending death, although by varying causes. While the
poems employ similar figurative and sonic elements of language, their tone and style vary. Yeats s
poem is primarily a war poem that serves as an elegy for the Irish pilot Major Robert Gregory who
died in WWI. As opposed to this Shakespeare s poem is a lamenting love song sung by the character
of Feste in Twelfth Night. Despite being different in setting, they both express an acceptance of death.
While both poems convey an awareness of death approaching, the causes of death are different.

This regular rhythm, reminiscent of the rhythm of a funeral march, creates a somber atmosphere that
amplifies the tone of the poems, the coming to peace with death. The regularity of the rhythm is
further intensified by the use of poetic devices such as alliteration, caesura and repetition. In Yeats s
poem the regularity of rhythm is augmented by the same length of lines with a tetrameter that follows
throughout the poem, providing not only and audible uniformity, but also a visual one. This uniformity
is reminiscent of the uniformity one associates with the army. Yeats uses alliteration of c and t in the
line My country is Kiltartan Cross (5). While adding to the consistency to the poem s rhythmic beat,
this also emphasizes the content, i.e. the airman didn t fight for any country or cause, but rather for his
village of Kiltartan Cross. In contrast to Yeats s poem, Shakespeare s Come Away, Come Away, Death
is neither visually nor audibly uniform. The poem s line lengths vary and alternate with long and short
lines. This affects the poem both visually and audibly, reflecting it s song like quality. The fact that the
poem is closer to a song is linked to its theme. A lament on death due to love would more
appropriately be expressed through song. This strong emotion is expressed through the use of
hyperbole such as a thousand thousand sighs to save (13), this repetition of thousand , conveys that

Individual power is the control held within the hierarchy of ascendancy over others. Although it does
take into account the ability to have command over one s self, with regard to the freedom of influence
and authority. In George Orwell s didactic Nineteen Eighty Four¸ the autonomy of the individual is
suppressed. His dystopic, totalitarian society depicts a world where the supremacy of the corporation
is maintained through the deprivation of self expression and the ever present threat of violent
coercion. The Party aims to achieve a social order that consists of no relationships, no desire, no art,
no literature, no science in order that ultimately no enjoyment in the process of life be found. This

Negative Self-Image In Barbie Doll, By Marge Piercy
Negative self image among women has been a struggle in society for a long period of time. Social
media, magazines, and the pressures of society has caused many young girls to feel bad about
themselves because they do not look like the clothing model on the runway or the bathing suit model
on the front of a magazine. Females grow up with the pressures of having to be in shape, wearing the
best clothes, and putting on a full face of makeup for a male to find them attractive. Society has
deemed that only fit women are beautiful, and that idea has caused women to harm themselves,
develop anorexia, and feel insecure of themselves daily. Two works of literature that discuss the

The Maintenance of the professional status of Chartered Accountancy in South Africa.
SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA and the IRBA are just a few of the professional bodies, or institutions, found
in South Africa with the purpose of developing and maintaining the professional standard of Chartered
Accountancy perceived within this nation. The real question is though, how do they do it? Especially
in such a way that sees South Africa renowned for the top seat in Chartered Accountancy standards. To
understand how this feat is achieved it is important to first know what a profession is: A profession is
an occupation organized in an institutional form, its members offer client services based on an
intellectual body of knowledge and a specialised repertoire of skills, that are not ordinarily possessed
by the non professional, in order to explicitly serve public interest. (Lee. 1995, 49) These members

How much time do you think went into the creation of each of these sources? Think about the process
it took the author to find the information, write, and get the material published? Is there any oversight
(for example, an editor) before getting the material published?
I believe all three of these had some type of editing involved but to different extents. Obviously the
academic article would have gone through a peer review process in order to be published. The
academic article would have taken much longer to complete than the other two.
The magazine article would have taken some time to publish as it is a quarterly magazine (although if
this article was only published online this might not be relevant), and it would have had a good
amount of editing. There is an editor whose job is to help decide what gets published and what doesn t
but this process most likely lets through more than the same process in the academic world does. The
author had many sources and took his time writing covering the issue in a thorough manner.
The news article had to get information from multiple sources and sort through the data of a scientific
study. This would have taken sometime and the editing process some more. This could have taken
some days or weeks to finish. It had only approximately 500 fewer words than the magazine

daughter as the baby was diagnosed with Down s syndrome. Nastia quoted, They told me she would
die in my arms, that her illness was so severe that she would need constant care. They compared her to
a broken toy that you can return to the store. (Human Rights Research Watch) Unfortunately, she
abandoned her child at the hospital but regained custody of Dasha a year later. Nastia discovered that
she was misinformed of Dasha s diagnosis. With continued support and compassion, Dasha has lived a
happy life. Dasha is not the only case of this cruel treatment as The Russian Constitution, adopted in
1993, lacks defined rights for all citizens and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stolen Generations In Australia
The Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Children from Their Families 1997 better known as the Bringing Them Home Report brought to the
fore the policies of separation and assimilation but also denial from several quarters of society
specifically the Liberal Prime Minister
Howard who referred to the whole sorry episode as a blemish in an Australian story of which all
should otherwise be extremely proud, a heroic achievement in the face of immense difficulties. This
blemish was genocide. It took place, as considered policy, for 70 years, in a stable Westminster
parliamentary democracy. (Bartrop, 2001 p.84 85).
With the election of a new Labor government 10 years after, came the apology to the stolen
generations that the conservative Liberal government never did. After conceding the major role of the
stolen generations in intergenerational trauma in 2008, the Council of Australian Governments agreed
to six ambitious targets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Magnesium Sulfate Lab Report
This experiment was performed in order to help in the learning of the different types of reactions.
Through this experiment we also learned about precipitates: these are the solids that form during a
reaction. Making a hypothesis wasn t the easiest because there are a total of 6 different experiments
put all into one class activity. We hypothesized that each of these experiments will give us either a
synthesis or single replacement reaction. The variables weren t that hard to determine; the independent
variable were the reactants and the dependent variables were the products of the reaction. The safety
hazards were upped because we were dealing with harmful chemicals and glassware. Goggles and

Silver nitrate and copper metal led to the formation of silver precipitate. We also observed a color
change towards the bottom where the copper was located. These results support that the type of
reaction was single replacement. The second experiment with hydrochloric acid was an example of
decomposition. We observed that the substance started to bubble and so a gas was produced. In the
third experiment Iron oxide was formed. We observed rust on the outside as a result of the oxygen
combing with the iron. This can best be described as synthesis. In the next experiment we discovered
that calcium chloride and magnesium Sulfate produce a substance that looks like milk after it foams.
As a result, we contemplated that this was an example of double replacement. In reaction 5 with Zinc
and hydrochloric acid we saw that the new product was introduced through bubbling. So we decided
that this was single replacement. The final experiment was the easiest experiment in my opinion.
Closing the candle stick and flame with a beaker resulted in visible smoke. In conclusion, we agreed
that this reaction was combustion. We observed that reactions have many different ways to take

Dynamic Duo V. Dynamic Partners Case
Primarily, I would recommend that Dynamic Duo seek legal advice and contact an attorney to advise
them of the situation at hand. All the more, I would highly recommend that Dynamic Duo consult with
an attorney who regularly practices OSHA law regarding their rights and defenses when an OSHA
citation has been received. Therefore, by implementing a lawyer that regularly practices OSHA law
would help counsel and contest or challenge proposed citations and penalties. Furthermore,
experienced OSHA lawyers understand the detailed regulations and OSHA s practices and can often
negotiate lower penalties and much better abatement terms for the employer. I would also immediately
record any and all injuries up to this point that many employees have received. I would then

The Effects Of Methylphenidate On Children And Youth
Methylphenidate, commonly known as Ritalin was synthesized in 1944 (U.S. Pharmacist, 2002). By

depression, narcolepsy, and to offset the sedating effects of other medications. (U.S. Pharmacist, 2002)
The interest to use Ritalin to treat the hyperkinetic syndrome. (U.S. Pharmacist, 2002) Which later

Investigate the Behaviour of Organisations and the Market...
Introduction
In this assignment I will identify the structure of markets within the economy and explain how they
deviate from the model of perfect competition. I will also expand on which market forces dominate
the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of
competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition
commission and regulatory bodies.
Market Types
The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the
business. Competition, as described by Stigler, G (2008) arises whenever two or more parties strive
for something that all cannot obtain. Perfect competition is seen as a theoretical ideal and ... Show

Market forces
Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within
the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available
substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand
for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops
below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it.
Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease,
petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a
given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve.
(Fig 1.)
Fig 1.
It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over
simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can
best used to describe this method of analysis.
Non price factors affecting demand
Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although
price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography
can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. People s income can also affect their
purchasing habits, often increasing their

Deterring Juvenile Criminal Activity Essay
Deterring Juvenile Criminal Activity
Arresting juvenile shoplifters can help deter future criminal activity.
Despite millions of dollars spent by retailers each year on surveillance and enforcement devices to
deter theft, shoplifting continues to be a major crime problem.
Store security personnel detect as many as two million shoplifting cases per year, but many are not
reported to the police. And of the almost 400,000 shoplifters detained and turned over to the police
annually, the vast majority are not arrested partly because shoplifters often are not tried and sentenced.
A store s shoplifting policy is influenced largely by the cost of following an arrest through
prosecution. Many stores are wary about the civil liability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FINDINGS
Shoplifting was not confined to specific gender, race, age, or social class. The typical shoplifter was,
however, disproportionately young and female. Because they were young, they tended to be
unmarried, unemployed, and less educated. As a group, they did not have extensive criminal records.
Researchers found that the shoplifters who were arrested were neither more nor less likely as a group
to commit future shoplifting offenses than were those who had been detained by store security
personnel and released. The arrest rate for both groups over the six month period was about 10
percent.
But arrest did have a significant deterrent effect on one important group juveniles. Of the 253
juveniles apprehended and turned over to the police for arrest, only four percent were rearrested for
crimes other than shoplifting during the following six months. Of the 315 not turned over to the
police, 10 percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting.
These findings challenge traditional assumptions that young people are more likely to repeat their
criminal behavior than older people. In fact, the findings suggest that shoplifters under the age of 17
who are arrested are less than half as likely to repeat their behavior as those over age 17.
IMPLICATIONS
The findings illustrate only what worked for stores in a certain jurisdiction. Adult shoplifters arrested
by the police in this particular jurisdiction were not likely to be prosecuted, convicted,

Management Accounting Essay
The last several decades have been a turbulent period for management accounting in the United States.
Many U.S. businesses failed in the international market, and the management accounting profession
recognized that some of the blame rests upon shortcomings in the information provided to managers.
A continuous flow of articles dating back to the mid 1980 s such as Kaplan (1986) or Chalos and
Bader (1986) has criticized contemporary management accounting systems. On the other hand, Reider
and Saunders (1988) offered a defense of contemporary management accounting methods asserting
that the methods are adequate but have not been used appropriately.
Management accounting plays a crucial role in manufacturing competitiveness by supplying ... Show

In the past, the bases used for allocating overhead were either volume driven, such as direct labor
hours and machine hours, or financial measures, such as direct labor costs and raw materials costs.
These allocation bases are simple and easy to use since the information is readily available either from
production or accounting reports, but they often result in mis measurement of costs.
As firms moved from labor driven manufacturing to automated manufacturing, old allocation bases
proved even more inaccurate (Horngren et al., 1999). Products were either under or over costed
because the bases used did not accurately reflect the activities consumed by the product. Another
problem was that the bases did not accurately reflect the overhead triggered by either batches or
product lines (Johnson, 1988), nor were all the production costs driven by these bases.
Another source of inaccurate costing has been the mis measurement or exclusion of relevant costs
(Weisman, 1991). Since business firms are subject to a multitude of externally mandated accounting
and reporting requirements (e.g., pronouncements of the SEC, FASB, GASB, IRS), management
accounting has used these same costs to make business decisions. Though these costs satisfy external
reporting purposes, they are incomplete for many internal purposes. For example, R amp;D,
distribution, and advertising costs are not considered as product costs for external reporting purposes
and are therefore often erroneously

Complexity Of Airplane Essay
The dream of flight is as old as mankind itself (Leonardo DaVinci, April 14, 1489)however, the
concept of an airplane is only a few centuries old. airplanes are the only vehicle that make traveling
hundreds of miles a task that can be done in just one to two hours. Trucks, boats or even race cars can
t even come close to the speed of the average commercial aircraft. The Complexity of the plane dates
back to many years of researching about the four forces and creating an aerodynamic flight
method(National Aeronautics Space Administration, 2006, Pg. 2). Leonardo DaVinciand the Wright
brothers were just a small few of the first plane pioneers.
The very first step made towards flight was Leonardo DiVinci s Ornithopter . TheOrnithopter was a
self propelled wing suit that attempted to mimic the flight of birds and bats.(Wright Brothers, 1999,

Drag is the force that pulls an airplane backwards. With too much drag an airplane will not be able to
fly forwards. However, with too little drag an airplane will not be able to correctly balance.(NASA,
2015, Pg 17.) Although a plane tries to overcome drag, it actually creates it.(Wright Brothers Int,
2001,) Anything that flies will create drag, the bigger the object the more the drag. To overcome drag,
an airplane is designed to be able to cut through the air.(NASA, 2015, Pg 1.) The best example of this
is in the wings. Wings on a plane tend to have a design that is thin and sharp in the front and gets
thicker as it moves down. Planes also have a very sharp nose(very front tip of the plane) along with a
pointed rudder (the tail of an airplane).(NASA, 2015, Pg. 3)Having all of these pointed parts allows an

bromobutane from 1 butanol and sodium bromide. In order for this reaction to reach completion there
are four major operations that need to be performed. The four major operations include refluxing,
simple distillation, separation, and drying. To begin, in order for the compounds to react they will be
dissolved in water and sulfuric acid will be added. The addition of sulfuric acid will then generate
hydrobromic acid, an important product in the reaction mixture. The hydrobromic acid will react with
the 1 butanol when heat is added to the flask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the flask was attached to a refluxing apparatus. This process of refluxing helps to purify
the mixture and keep the reaction at a constant temperature. Also, before the reaction mixture began to
boil the separation of a clear top layer and a cloudy bottom layer helped to indicate that the reaction
was working properly. The top layer was the alkyl bromide since the other components of the aqueous
layer have the greater density. After the 45 minute refluxing process was complete, the apparatus was
set up for simple distillation apparatus distillation commenced. Distillation took place until no more
drops of product were dripping from the distillation head. The first drop of distillate occurred when
the thermometer read 75°C, the actual temperature was probably a bit higher since the vapors might
not have fully reached the bulb of the thermometer. The final drop of distillate was collected at about
115°C. Once the distillate was collected, it was placed in a seperatory funnel and the reaction flask
was rinsed with 10 mL of water and added to the seperatory funnel. Rinsing the funnel ensured that all
of the distillate from the distillation process was removed from the reaction flask and no product was
left on the walls of the flask. After the water was added, two layers formed in the funnel. The top layer
was the water and the bottom layer was the 1 bromobutane since the density of 1 bromobutane is
higher than that of water.

The use of information systems allows these businesses to obtain a significant advantage and ensures
the market remains competitive and opens several job opportunities. The advantages depend upon the
particular business how they utilizes the information technology. One method of utilizing information
technology is building and supporting networks for the small enterprises. This is especially useful for
those business that are at a geographical disadvantage being based in rural and semi suburban areas.
These remote areas are less exposed and often left behind as technology improves at a rapid pace.
Other businesses that find advantages in the use of information technology are those in developing
countries. Similar to rural businesses, until urban sprawl appears, these areas are severely lacking in
technology and information technology ensures these businesses remain with the pack. Another
method of utilizing information technology is the assimilation on information technology in these

Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, And Jim Jarmusch
Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, and Jim Jarmusch embody the Native Americans revolution for
education in their work through exposing three of white society s most prominent methods of
attacking Native cultures: forced assimilation, the destruction of cultural identity, and cultural
appropriation. White society forces the assimilation of Native peoples in an attempt to strip them of
their cultural identity and individualism, which white people see as savagery. Natives who once had a

  • 2. Elie Wiesel’s Night and Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding... Elie Wiesel s Night and Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place Many outsiders strive but fail to truly comprehend the haunting incident of World War II s Holocaust. None but survivors and witnesses succeed to sense and live the timeless pain of the event which repossesses the core of human psyche. Elie Wiesel and Corrie Ten Boom are two of these survivors who, through their personal accounts, allow the reader to glimpse empathy within the soul and the heart. Elie Wiesel (1928 ), a journalist and Professor of Humanities at Boston University, is an author of 21 books. The first of his collection, entitled Night, is a terrifying account of Wiesel s boyhood experience as a WWII Jewish prisoner of Hitler s dominant and secretive Nazi party. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These strong survivors pose as teachers and role models by revealing strengths, weaknesses and survival techniques. Wiesel and Ten Boom survive against the odds, but not without physical and emotional scars. The unsung hero and heroin pair experience tremendous suffering, but confront that affliction with distinct contrary responses. The theme and style of Wiesel and Ten Boom reveal individual personal beliefs and strength levels in reaction to their concentration camp experience during WWII s Holocaust. Theme is the window which Wiesel and Ten Boom open through words and thoughts to reveal the true purpose of their tales. Although both authors experience the grime of concentration camp and grief of family loss, their responses to this suffering are distinct. This distinctness is not unexpected, for as one s strengths and beliefs are personal, as is the effect of events effecting those strengths and beliefs. Wiesel and Ten Boom state the purpose of their self exposed stories clearly, and their purposes differ just as clearly. Wiesel stresses the importance of applying lessons of the past to the present for the sake of the world s future. He writes to create a feeling of such horror and catharsis within the reader to prevent the evil of the Holocaust or any type of unjust persecution to ever occur again. He opens the reader s eyes with vividly horrible images of human suffering and creates no barrier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Yuma Buck And Nude Squaw By Henry Buehman The piece Yuma Buck and Nude Squaw by Henry Buehman taken place in the Tucson Arizona Territory in the 1870s is a visual representation of colonialism within the 70s. Because Buehman was a white man and an outsider looking into the Indian community that he studied, audiences are easily able to see the informed accents of colonialism in his work. This photo in particular represents the the concept of the colonial gaze quite well. By definition the colonial gaze is how westerners and non westerners see Indigenous people. The individuals within the photo look as if they have a lot of disinterest in the photoshoot, which is what Buehman may have been hoping for. Because they are not smiling or in a confident pose it is almost as if Buehman is intentionally trying to represent the colonial gaze. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the photo it is as if he uses the woman to represent what the Europeans see in Indigenous people such as savage, uncivilized, and dirty, and on the other hand he dresses the man in more of a European outfit of choice with the black vest and shirt and pants. He still somewhat represents a dirtier side of the man aswell because he is not wearing any shoes, but because his clothing presents European culture it is almost as if he is more powerful in the photo. Buehman seems to be playing with power in this photo as well as he dresses what looks to be the woman on the right as vulnerable by showering her breasts and wearing a skirt where as the man is dressed more formally. At the same time he represents a kind of resistance to colonialism by wanting to dress a man in clothes similar to his, and showing that he can look good in those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Comfort Women Research Paper Comfort Women and the Japanese Denial of Forced Prostitution During the time of the Japanese Empire, when Japan had taken control of Korea and was attempting to expand its territory further, the Japanese military utilized sex slaves and prostitutes called comfort women in order to boost morale and prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However, after World War II, these comfort women all but vanished from Japanese history, only to reemerge in a large movement in the 1990s demanding the Japanese recognize the war crimes committed against these women. Since then, Japan changed its official stance several times on whether or not the comfort women existed and whether or not they were forced into prostitution against their will by the ... While Tokyo drew up a compensation plan for the comfort women in December 1994, this compensation plan called for raising non government funds, which was rejected by a coalition of South Korean civic groups because they felt that the government itself should pay for its crimes (Soh Korean Comfort Women 1237). Japan also heavily downplayed the atrocities of the comfort woman system. Japanese schoolbooks from the time generally omitted the existence of the comfort women, and seemed to have the view that all Asians suffered as a collective in the war, which completely ignores the fact that the Japanese subjugated other Asian ethnicities (Nishioka Behind the Comfort Women Controversy 5). Many Japanese did not even believe the testimony of the comfort women, and believed the Asahi Shimbun article was falsified to sell papers (Nishioka The Comfort Women Issue 19). The Andes divide the country s mainland into three distinct regions, the coast to the west, the mountains, and the rainforest to the east. It is the Andes that this paper is focused on, giving special attention to the mountain Cotopaxi. The Andes run along the western side of South America, starting in Venezuela and continuing through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, all the way to the southern tip of Chile. It is almost perfectly conical, rising to a height of 5,897 meters above sea level, and is covered with glaciers from about 4,500 meters up to the summit. The glaciers cover a total area of 21 km2, as of 2004. At the summit, the crater is about 800 meters across, and extends to a depth of 334 meters (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The primary rivers it drains water into are the Rio Cutuchi to the south, the Rio Pita to the north, and the Rio Tamboto to the east (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 163). It is along these rivers than many towns are located. Along the Rio Cutuchi, the city of Latacunga is a mere 43 km away from the volcano; while Sangolquí is located to the north, in the Valle de los Chillos, about 40 km downstream along the Rio Pita from Cotopaxi (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 163). The capital of Ecuador, Quito, lies only about 50 km away to the northwest (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The glaciers that give Cotopaxi its stunning appearance are one of the factors that make Cotopaxi so dangerous. When the volcano has an eruption, the hot material issued from the crater melts portions of the glaciers on the summit, inevitably triggering lahars. Cotopaxi is known for having syn eruptive lahars. • 7. A Hero As A Hero Imagine if you were in a world without heroes that are brave, hardworking and show self sacrifice. It would be a total nightmare if everything will be disorganized. If a hero shows they are brave they will be respected and everyone will look up to them as a role model. For example, people that are veterans, policemen, and firefighters show us the US citizens every day that they will fight in a war to save our country no matter what it takes. For a hero to show self sacrifice they put other people first in a life treating citation. For instance, a criminal comes into a store an older man immediately goes in front of a little girl by herself. Hero won t think he will just do it even if it puts his life in danger. Lastly, a hero is someone who is hard working. Say a person does not get the job they want, they never give up and stick to it and work hard. A hero may make some mistakes along the way but they remain brave show self sacrifice and work hard. A hero is someone who is very brave. For instance, a person who is brave enough to speak their mind about controversial issues is a hero. For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. stood up for all the colored people who did not have a voice. He was aware of the possible consequences of his actions, which included putting himself in danger; however, he still stood up for what he believed in. He was a hero because he bravely sacrificed himself to help others have equal rights in America. When a person does good things for someone else in need they are showing they like to help others. When people help others in need that makes them a good person and you never know who what will happen if you help that person. In the end, a hero is a role model to people all over the world who want to be like him. An excellent example of a hero is Pfc. Tristan Segers. In the article Soldier home After losing his leg in Afghanistan Tristan Segers keeps going with his life not feeling bad about his leg. I just told all the doctors that I didn t want my life to be different than it was before (Fiege 68). Even though Tristan was knocked down, he got right back up and stayed strong. • 8. How The Signs That Can Be Present Within These Phenomena Photography in itself, is a means of communication, it can be used in a variety of ways in order to narrate the world around us [Campbell, D (2010)]. As a species, humanity itself has proven to be visual beings, creating pictures across a variety of mediums in order to express ourselves and represent what is happening in the world around us. Images, whether they be paintings, drawings, or photographs, have played and continue to play a very important part in our society, as everyone is able to understand the image and interpret the story from it, despite barriers such as language which may prohibit initial communication, and the work of scholars and anthropologists, and even consumers of visual culture work tirelessly to decrypt and derive meaning from these mediums [Perlmutter, DD (2003)]. Analysis and understanding of the signs that can be present within these phenomena is known as semiotics , which is derived from the Greek word semeion, for sign . It can be applied across a broad range of cultural mediums used in communication. Semiotics stresses the open ended possibilities for any interpretation and the indeterminacy of meaning that can be taken from visual cues, and within photography, signs and visual communication of a story is paramount [Semiotics (2010)]. But is photography, in particular, landscape photography, able to convey the fullness of a story, and can everyone interpret the images and signs within those images the way they were meant to be understood, or ... Moreover, the quantitative method is used by researches who want to discover statistics and facts by analyzing data in a numerical way. In the group collaboration, we did have a discussion about qualitative vs. quantitative research and how the article could be difficult in some sections to asses which method the researches performed. Other than that, hypothetically, an opposing view could come up from someone questioning the results based on how data was accumulated since the study could not determine how supportive relationships could affect the outcome of the diagnosis of each woman. Yeats s poem An Irish Airman Foresees his Death and Shakespeare s poem Come Away, Come Away, Death both deal with the theme of impending death, although by varying causes. While the poems employ similar figurative and sonic elements of language, their tone and style vary. Yeats s poem is primarily a war poem that serves as an elegy for the Irish pilot Major Robert Gregory who died in WWI. As opposed to this Shakespeare s poem is a lamenting love song sung by the character of Feste in Twelfth Night. Despite being different in setting, they both express an acceptance of death. While both poems convey an awareness of death approaching, the causes of death are different. Shakespeare s poem being a lament about unrequited love, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This regular rhythm, reminiscent of the rhythm of a funeral march, creates a somber atmosphere that amplifies the tone of the poems, the coming to peace with death. The regularity of the rhythm is further intensified by the use of poetic devices such as alliteration, caesura and repetition. In Yeats s poem the regularity of rhythm is augmented by the same length of lines with a tetrameter that follows throughout the poem, providing not only and audible uniformity, but also a visual one. This uniformity is reminiscent of the uniformity one associates with the army. Yeats uses alliteration of c and t in the line My country is Kiltartan Cross (5). While adding to the consistency to the poem s rhythmic beat, this also emphasizes the content, i.e. the airman didn t fight for any country or cause, but rather for his village of Kiltartan Cross. In contrast to Yeats s poem, Shakespeare s Come Away, Come Away, Death is neither visually nor audibly uniform. The poem s line lengths vary and alternate with long and short lines. This affects the poem both visually and audibly, reflecting it s song like quality. The fact that the poem is closer to a song is linked to its theme. A lament on death due to love would more appropriately be expressed through song. This strong emotion is expressed through the use of hyperbole such as a thousand thousand sighs to save (13), this repetition of thousand , conveys that that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His dystopic, totalitarian society depicts a world where the supremacy of the corporation is maintained through the deprivation of self expression and the ever present threat of violent coercion. Social media, magazines, and the pressures of society has caused many young girls to feel bad about themselves because they do not look like the clothing model on the runway or the bathing suit model on the front of a magazine. SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA and the IRBA are just a few of the professional bodies, or institutions, found in South Africa with the purpose of developing and maintaining the professional standard of Chartered Accountancy perceived within this nation. The real question is though, how do they do it? Especially in such a way that sees South Africa renowned for the top seat in Chartered Accountancy standards. To understand how this feat is achieved it is important to first know what a profession is: A profession is an occupation organized in an institutional form, its members offer client services based on an intellectual body of knowledge and a specialised repertoire of skills, that are not ordinarily possessed by the non professional, in order to explicitly serve public interest. Think about the process it took the author to find the information, write, and get the material published? Is there any oversight (for example, an editor) before getting the material published? I believe all three of these had some type of editing involved but to different extents. Obviously the academic article would have gone through a peer review process in order to be published. The academic article would have taken much longer to complete than the other two. The magazine article would have taken some time to publish as it is a quarterly magazine (although if this article was only published online this might not be relevant), and it would have had a good amount of editing. There is an editor whose job is to help decide what gets published and what doesn t but this process most likely lets through more than the same process in the academic world does. The author had many sources and took his time writing covering the issue in a thorough manner. I will also expand on which market forces dominate the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition commission and regulatory bodies. Market Types The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the business. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Market forces Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it. Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease, petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve. (Fig 1.) Fig 1. It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can best used to describe this method of analysis. Non price factors affecting demand Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. Because they were young, they tended to be unmarried, unemployed, and less educated. As a group, they did not have extensive criminal records. Researchers found that the shoplifters who were arrested were neither more nor less likely as a group to commit future shoplifting offenses than were those who had been detained by store security personnel and released. The arrest rate for both groups over the six month period was about 10 percent. But arrest did have a significant deterrent effect on one important group juveniles. Of the 253 juveniles apprehended and turned over to the police for arrest, only four percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting during the following six months. Of the 315 not turned over to the police, 10 percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting. In the past, the bases used for allocating overhead were either volume driven, such as direct labor hours and machine hours, or financial measures, such as direct labor costs and raw materials costs. These allocation bases are simple and easy to use since the information is readily available either from production or accounting reports, but they often result in mis measurement of costs. As firms moved from labor driven manufacturing to automated manufacturing, old allocation bases proved even more inaccurate (Horngren et al., 1999). Products were either under or over costed because the bases used did not accurately reflect the activities consumed by the product. Another problem was that the bases did not accurately reflect the overhead triggered by either batches or product lines (Johnson, 1988), nor were all the production costs driven by these bases. Another source of inaccurate costing has been the mis measurement or exclusion of relevant costs (Weisman, 1991). Since business firms are subject to a multitude of externally mandated accounting and reporting requirements (e.g., pronouncements of the SEC, FASB, GASB, IRS), management accounting has used these same costs to make business decisions. Trucks, boats or even race cars can t even come close to the speed of the average commercial aircraft. The Complexity of the plane dates back to many years of researching about the four forces and creating an aerodynamic flight method(National Aeronautics Space Administration, 2006, Pg. 2). Leonardo DaVinciand the Wright brothers were just a small few of the first plane pioneers. The very first step made towards flight was Leonardo DiVinci s Ornithopter . In order for this reaction to reach completion there are four major operations that need to be performed. The four major operations include refluxing, simple distillation, separation, and drying. To begin, in order for the compounds to react they will be dissolved in water and sulfuric acid will be added. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point the flask was attached to a refluxing apparatus. This process of refluxing helps to purify the mixture and keep the reaction at a constant temperature. Also, before the reaction mixture began to boil the separation of a clear top layer and a cloudy bottom layer helped to indicate that the reaction was working properly. The top layer was the alkyl bromide since the other components of the aqueous layer have the greater density. After the 45 minute refluxing process was complete, the apparatus was set up for simple distillation apparatus distillation commenced. Distillation took place until no more drops of product were dripping from the distillation head. The first drop of distillate occurred when the thermometer read 75°C, the actual temperature was probably a bit higher since the vapors might not have fully reached the bulb of the thermometer. The final drop of distillate was collected at about 115°C. Once the distillate was collected, it was placed in a seperatory funnel and the reaction flask was rinsed with 10 mL of water and added to the seperatory funnel. Rinsing the funnel ensured that all of the distillate from the distillation process was removed from the reaction flask and no product was left on the walls of the flask.
