This document compares two methods for representing 3D rotation: Euler angles and quaternions. Euler angles use roll, pitch, and yaw angles and are simple and intuitive but can result in gimbal lock and are limited to ±90 degrees. Quaternions use four imaginary numbers and are more complicated and less intuitive but are free from gimbal lock problems.
