Abstract
Concepts NREC has completed its design and development of an integrated high speed axial turbine and permanent magnet generator. The Turbine –Generator Unit (TGU) is ideal for ORC applications for its compactness, reliability, and versatility. The 20,000 rpm TGU does not use a shaft seal or gearbox and the generator is evaporatively cooled using the ORC working fluid. The TGU is designed with the intent of having the same turbine housing and generator used with a range of operating ORC fluid operating pressures and temperatures to enable its wide spread use in a variety of ORC heat recovery applications. The rotor and nozzle stators are changed to aerodynamically optimize the performance of the turbine at different ORC fluid operating conditions and flow rates. The output voltage of the generator can range from 300 to 480 VAC and at 50 hz and 60 hz. This facilitates its use in waste heat recovery applications throughout the world. This technical paper will review the mechanical and electrical design features of the turbine-generator unit.

The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

How To: Reduce Noise From a Brushed Motor
- 1. Motors, Gearmotors & Integrated Solutions ISO 9001:2008 Registered How To: Reduce Noise Output from a Brushed Motor Customer can’t afford a brushless motor or needs the starting torque of a brushed motor? Here are some ideas to reduce noise. Noise is often the single toughest challenge faced by design engineers when developing products especially in medical applications. The inherent noise issue with many types of motors is the brushes. Brushes create mechanical and electrical noise due to friction against the commutator, as well as arcing caused by current conducting through the brush and commutator. A reduction in noise level of 10 decibels is an impressive achievement. The decibel scale is logarithmic, not linear. Every three dB decrease of the sound level cuts the intensity of the sound by half. Radiated noise can be amplified through the other components in the system. Here are some additional tips for reducing noise: • Avoid using sheet metal and structural components that will resonate with the motor • In some cases, the use of vibration isolators to mount the motor can help • Accurately align of the driven components to the motor *Note: the higher the RPM of the motor the more sound will be radiated from the motor. For OEM applications where sound is a critical specification, Groschopp has a sound evaluation laboratory for motor and gearmotor testing. Using data from these tests allows our design engineers to mitigate unacceptable noise using a variety of construction materials and techniques.
