You need to smile and make sure you have a firm handshake
without breaking anyone’s bones. Eye contact is vital so keep
your gaze just a few seconds longer than usual, without looking
like a lunatic.
3. Nonverbal communication
It's about demonstrating confidence: standing straight, making eye
contact and connecting with a firm handshake. That
first nonverbal impression can be a great beginning -- or quick
ending -- to your interview.
4. Be enthusiastic
You’ve been invited for interview because they believe you can do the
job. It’s just down to you on the day to show that you can do it better
than anyone else they might be interviewing. Try to show that you are
flexible and willing to take on responsibility.
5. Timing is critical
Whatever happens don’t be late! Arrive 10 minutes before – and if you’re too
early then take a walk around the block. Just don’t leave it until 5 minutes before
the interview is due to start, because the interview room might be some distance
away from the reception area you have reported to.
6. Do some research on the company
Look at the company’s mission statement on their website. What is it that is
driving them; what are their core aims; what is the ethos of the company?
Remember, you are looking to fit this mould.
7. Job Description and the Person Specification
In the Application Form section we looked at how these documents tell
you what the company is looking for. Revisit these documents. The mould
is there for you to fit.
8. If you’re nervous, take time to relax
Focus on your breathing while you wait. This
can be more useful than revision. If you can
relax a little you’ll think on your feet.
9. Pay attention to your surroundings
Think about your answers. Rather take your time and
give the right answer than rush and talk nonsense.
