4. What is Umrah?
• The Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that can be undertaken
at any time of the year.
• Umrah is expiation for the sins committed between it and another
Umrah (Bukhari,Muslim).
• It cleans one’s soul from past committed sins.

5. The Rites of Umrah
1. Entering the state of Ihram (Men,Women).
2. Tawaf of Ka’abah .
3. Sa’ye between the hills of Safa and Marwah .
4. Shaving or Clipping of the hair.

6. Purification
Take a bath with the intention (Niyyah) of Ihram otherwise do wudu.
Here it is noted that there are two ways of purification:
1. Purification of Body (Shower or wudu).
2. Internal Purification (Sincere repentance on your sin). Say something
like this
“O ALLAH, I sincererly repent on my sins and seek your forgiveness”.

7. Intention (Niyyah) and Talbiyah
Declare your intention and recite the words of talbiyah three times in a
loud voice by Men and in a subdued voice by women .

8. Prohibitions of Ihram
After intention and Talbiyah, you are in the status of Ihram from this time on you
should not do acts that are forbidden in Ihram. Other wise , you will slaughter a
sheep with every mistake you do.
• Cover head .
• Cover the middle bone of the upper part of the feet .
• Shave / cut hair
• Cut nails
• Wear perfume
• Hunting/killing
• sex

9. Restrictions while in the Haram
Every good deed or bad deed is multiplied by 100,000 times.
• Its plants must not be cut.
• Nor is any man to bear arms for fighting in it.
• Articles lost in it must not be picked up.

10. How to perform Tawaf
Tawaf means circling (moving) around ka’abah seven times with
extreme love and devotion .
• Turn right and start tawaf counter clockwise.
• Come in front of Hajar Al Aswad and raise your hands to ears keeping
open your palm toward it and say

• It called Istilam.

17. How to perform Sa’ey
• Climb the hill of Safa and make intention (Niyyah) for Say’e
• Run Seven times between Safa and Marwa .
• Recite :

19. Shaving or clipping of Hair
• Men should get their heads completely shaved or get their hair
clipped to the length of the upper third of their finger or a little more.
• Women are allowed to have a lock of their hair clipped. The are
forbidden to shave their heads .

20. Performing multiple Umrahs
• This practice has no basis in the Sonnah of the prophet (Pbuh).
• The exceptions here is a Umrah which one performs for :
1. A deceased person
2. A sick or an old person who is not able to perform Umrah by
himself/herself
3. Fulfillment of a pledge .
