2. Imam Ali said: “When a person stands up for
prayers, Iblis approaches him and looks at him with
envy and jealousy, as he sees the Mercy of Allah
encompassing the person.”

4. Takbir
The hands are raised level with
shoulders or level with top of the
ears, with fingers apart and not
spaced out or together. And say:
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest

5. Sanaa
Stand up straight, with your hands folded. Your
right hand should be over your left, and they
should overlap till the wrists only. Men place
their folded hands below their navel, and
women at chest level.
Recite the following:
Subhaanak-Allaahumma, wa biham-dika, wa tabaarakasmuka, wa ta'aalaa
jadduka, wa laa ilaaha ghayruk.
O Allah, how perfect You are and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name, and

6. The beginning of the first Rak'at
Rrecite:
A'udhu billahi minash shaitanir rajim.
I seek shelter in Allah from the rejected Satan.
Then recite:
Bismillahir rahmanir rahim.

7. Recite Surah Al-Fatihah
Al hamdu lil lahi rabbil 'alamin. Arrahmanir rahim. Maliki yawmiddin. Iyyaka
na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in. Ihdinas siratal mustaqim. Siratal ladhina
an'amta'alaihim, ghairil maghdubi'alaihim wa lad dhallin.
All praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the most Gracious, the most
Merciful; Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, from You alone we
seek help. Guide us along the straight path - the path of those whom You favored, not

8. Recite any other Surah
Bismillahir rahmanir rahim. Qul aAAoothu birabbi annas Maliki annas Ilahi
annas Min sharri alwaswasi alkhannas Allathee yuwaswisu fee sudoori annas
Mina aljinnati wannas
In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. Say, "I seek refuge in the
Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind, From the evil of
the retreating whisperer – Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind – From

9. Ruk'u
Unfold your hands and bow down saing:
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
Then placing your hands on your knees.
The back, should become parallel to the
ground. It is essential to completely bow,
not just tilt your body at 45o to the vertical.
Recite the following:
Subhana Rabbiyal Adhim. (3 times)
How Perfect is my Lord, the Supreme.

10. Stand up from the bowing position saying:
Sami'Allahu liman hamidah. Rabbana
lakal hamd.
Allah hears those who praise Him. Our
Lord, praise be to You.

11. Sujood
Say:
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
Prostrate, placing your forehead, palms, and knees on the ground. The bases of both
feet's fingers need to touch the ground. Your forehead must be bare (a covered
forehead invalidates prayer). A woman's elbows may touch the ground, but men must
keep their elbows raised above the ground.
Then recite:
Subhana Rabbiyal A'la. (3 times)
How Perfect is my Lord, the Highest.

12. Sit up from the floor saying:
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
Sit upright with your knees bent and palms
placed on them. Keep your eyes at your
lap. Men turn up the heel, and bend the
toes, of the right foot. Women keep both
their feet, soles up, under their body.

13. Say:
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
And again prostrate in the Sujood position.
Then recite:
Subhana Rabbiyal A'la. (3 times)
How Perfect is my Lord, the Highest.

Stand up saying
Allahu Akbar

15. The second Rak'at is identical to the
first one up till the second Sujood
After second Sujood sit up from the floor saying:

16. Recite Tashahhud:
At-Tahiyyatu lillahi was-Salawatu wat-Tayyibatu. As-Salamu ' alaika
ayyuhannabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Assalamu 'alaina wa'ala
ibadil-Lahis-Salihin ash hadu al-La ilaha il-Lal lahu wa ash hadu anna
Mohammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu.
Greetings, prayers and goodness belong to Allah. Peace be on you, O Prophet and
the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be on us and on the righteous servants
of Allah I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and bear witness that
Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

17. In the same posture recite:
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin Wa 'ala ali Muhammadin Kama sallaita 'ala
Ibrahima wa 'ala ali Ibrahima Innaka hamidun Majid.
Allahumma barik 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammadin Kama barakta 'ala
Ibrahima Wa 'ala ali Ibrahima Innaka hamidun Majid.
O Allah, let Your mercy come upon Mohammad and the family of Mohammad as You
let it come upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and
Glorious. O Allah, bless Mohammad and the family of Mohammad as You blessed
Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

18. Then recite:
Rabbana 'atina fi-d-dunya hasanatav-va-fil 'akhirati hasanatav-va-kina
'azabannar.
Our Lord, give us goodness in this life and afterlife and protect us from hellfire.

19. Now turn your face to the right saying:
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.
Peace and the mercy of Allah be on you.
Then turn your face to the left saying:
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.
