- 9. The 5 Finger Rule The 5 finger rule is easy. Go to the middle of the book and read a page or two, hold out a finger for every word you miss or don’t understand. If you get 5 fingers the book is too HARD. But you can make it then the book is okay but if you only get one finger the book is too EASY.
