city are now committed to the goal of making affordable solar
power accessible to people from all backgrounds. These
programs come with the additional bonus of establishing new
jobs in the sustainability sector for people from low-income
backgrounds.

Apart from the commitment shown by the nonprofit sector,
corporate entities are also demonstrating an interest in the
broad adoption of solar power in New York City. It’s not just
residential buildings that are getting retrofitted, commercial
buildings are also turning towards the sun. In March 2019,
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the building
technology conglomerate Siemens will build New York
City's largest rooftop solar generation center atop the Javits
Center on Manhattan's West Side. Altogether, New York
City is aiming for 70 percent of the city’s total energy to
