I underhållsskedet ligger fokus på asfaltlagret och vägytans friktion. Genom att i samband med periodisk omasfaltering införa rutin för underhåll av vägbanans geometri kan skillnaden i olycksrisk mellan ytter- och innerkurvor minimeras. Detta kan spara uppemot 50 dödsfall/år, sett till en underhållscykel för vägnätet (perspektiv: 20 år). En förutsättning är ökade anslag för vägmaterial till justering av farliga lutningar.
