The couple had their home at 170 West Beach Rd. custom­built 20 years ago.
Joseph Catalano remembers the building process took about 13 months, and he
acted as the general contractor. Today, they live at the contemporary­style house
with their son, who is a now a college student. The house is on more than one acre
and is located a short distance from Blue Shutters East Beach.
The house has 3,200 square feet of living space, including two bedrooms, two full
bathrooms and one half bathroom, and a three­car integral garage with doors on
both sides, giving "drive­though" access to the driveways on both sides of the
house.
The main living level includes a gourmet eat­in kitchen, formal dining and living
rooms, a three­season sunroom off the kitchen, and a master bedroom suite.
Except for the bedroom suite, much of the first floor was designed in a modern
open­concept style that surrounds the central staircase.
The house looks more traditional from the outside, with a wraparound porch that
offers views of Quonnie Pond. Many of the rooms inside also have water views.
Vaulted ceilings and large windows also help to give the interior spaces a sunny,
open feel. There is an eyebrow window above the front door.
The eat­in kitchen is spacious, with a wood floor and stainless steel appliances,
including a gas range and double convection ovens.

Home in Charlestown
The second floor has a large family room, another bedroom, and another full
bathroom, and also has an open design that offers even more sweeping water
views. There are several other beds tucked into semi­private nooks on the second
floor, in the corners of the dramatic open spaces with vaulted ceilings.
A ladder leads up to the third floor observation deck, which used to be an open
deck, but the Catalanos later enclosed the space, forming a cozy and protected
room where their son, and the family dog, like to spend time.
Quonnie is also a family neighborhood for the Catalanos. Their home was built on
land formerly owned by Linda's family, and Linda's mother lives nearby. The
couple said they have not selected a new home yet, but it is likely they will stay in
Rhode Island.
