student. Home schooling can be very flexible for those students who do sports or activities such
as ballet. Having the flexibility helps students have more energy than those in public school and
worry less about their tests. Parents can be just as hard on their kids as any teacher or tutor can.

A tremendous decision a parent or guardian has to make once their child is of age is whether to

To persuade the audience to realize traditional homeschooling is harmful
SPECIFIC PURPOSE(S):
To persuade the audience to realize the harmful effects of traditional homeschooling
To persuade the audience that public/private school is better
To persuade the audience not to make the choice of homeschooling children
CENTRAL IDEA:Traditional homeschooling is not the best route to educate a student.

Traditional homeschooling can be problematic to a student's life skills and overall development.
The social learning aspect of school, which is lacking in homeschool, directly transfers into college
and the workplace. Most teenagers and kids need to be supervised at every moment or else they
will not do their work and, while at home, it is hard to find the motivation to do schoolwork.

Homeschooling was first introduced in the 1972. In a case Supreme Court case Wisconsin vs.
Yoder they fought over the fact that public schools were violating their religious beliefs. The court
decided to rule in favor of religious freedom, instead of favoring the states who wanted to require
public education for everyone. The ruling that the Supreme Court made did not allow the
homeschooled parents to teach the kids however the want. The government was still allowed to
intervene to check the child's mental and physical health (Homeschooling, 2017). The main reason
the homeschooling began was because of religious reason. Parents didn't want public education to
be forced onto their child, since it may of went against their religion. There are even more reasons
now to be homeschooled. It would be for religious reasons, or it could be for health reasons. Many
parents believe that when their child is being homeschooled they are getting a better, more
personalized education. Although homeschooling is seen as not being a viable alternative for public
school,it should be. Students who are homeschooled have more skills, and receive a better education
in primary school. This will help them greatly once they graduate high school, and go onto college,
and even in the workforce. HIghschooling should be a more prominent option for all students.

Persuasive Paper Homeschooling
The best single line I wrote was: "It is unfair to attach strings to your support for your children;
love them unconditionally." I think that many people can relate to this and it shows where I stand
on the need for parental support for children and when and how parents should love and support
their child(ren). I think that it is imperative that a parent not attach strings to their relationship with
their kids. At some point in their life, they will be the only people you have in your life and vice
versa. If your child does something that you do not agree with or does something that you would
not do yourself, you either need to accept it, or use it as a learning experience for the both of you.

I didn't have much to choose from to include, so I went with the pieces that were best, and used
some from Whittier. I included pieces from Whittier for a few reasons. I think the pieces i wrote
at Whittier have more of my personal voice showing through. I picked the topic for the persuasive
essay, and I picked the topic for the history essay, which means that the topics that I wrote about
were something I was passionate about. The persuasive essay is about homeschooling, a topic
that I have known about, been interested in, and been involved with for a few years. I made a
conscious effort to make sure that I was not straying away fromt the outline I had made and I
asked my teacher to read and edit my paper. This meant that any overused words, spelling errors
or off topic thoughts were eliminated. This lead to a concise paper and one that helped me
progress towards my first semester goal. For this essay, I found the teacher feedback extremely
helpful, and I am very happy with the way that this paper turned out and with the grade I received.
I also submitted a paper from my history class. History is a class I am passionate about, and this
paper was the easiest to write out of all of the ones in my portfolio. This essay has lots of
information in it, and although I did not receive teacher feedback prior to submitting, I had one of
my peers read it over. I find that peer editing, while it can be helpful, is not nearly as helpful
